perhaps there are no "demons" after all and no "demon" realm originally
there was just a magical realm where all these magical beings lived and when the mystic gems were created that's when the demon realm came to exist and the "demon" magical beings went there to serve Maou
because if the "demon" realm ceased to exist when the mystic gems were destroyed/scattered, then that must mean the "demon" realm isn't some eternal place and at some point was created and the mystic gems were created at some point too and didn't always exist.
