Post-post-apocalypse is best, something after the initial chaos when things have settled down. Either humanity is starting to pick itself up (New Vegas) or a slow decline towards extinction (Jinrui), whichever way is nice.

Comfy in the way a bonfire in Dark Souls is comfy. Nightmarishly unforgiving world filled with mutants, crumbling ruins, tons of body horror, but at the end of the day the lone, wandering protag can sit down and have a nice canned meal as the irradiated rain hits the roof of his makeshift hovel.

Something like a mix between STALKER and Violence where it's more localized than anything else that but whole area

Coming across these guys in Garbage for the first time was an experience. Then again, STALKER oozes atmosphere from every pore, from the unexpected horror of lab delving to that Race to the Reactor through Pripyat. God I love that game so much.
