I'm rewatching scenes on youtube randomly, and some things get put into perspective when viewed with a fresh eye. When Naruto gets his headband back from Zabuza's water clone and says he has a plan, Sakura blushes and wonders to herself if Naruto has always been that cool. When Sasuke awakes and uses the cursed seal for the first time, Sasuke wants to hurt the people who hurt Sakura. In the first Japanese OP Rocks where they beat the random thugs, Sakura fights competently and Sasuke reaches his hand out while smiling to help up Naruto who fell into a river beating one of their opponents, creating the impression of competence and cohesion in their ninja team.

The problem is that over many years and many plots the earlier elements aren't really expanded upon well enough. These elements are introduced in the beginning but once the readers get the general idea Kishi stops reinforcing the concept throughout the story. Because Kishi stopped developing the interpersonal dynamics of the characters, he has to start shitting out flashbacks. Itachi and Sasuke vs Kabuto added a flashback where the two hunted a boar together, so that's why they can fight so in synch. But we know that Itachi blew him off so much during their childhood and Sasuke even pondered if he was loved. He got a single moment of praise before Itachi massacres everyone. Naruto keeps getting flashbacks of his competitions with Sasuke as a kid because they didn't have enough time to develop the dynamic. Hinata had a solid reason for liking Naruto but didn't interact with him very much. After she confesses she's completely ignored then boom they're married here's a movie about how they got together, here's flashbacks that she was the first to accept him stealing from Iruka's legacy.

The most frustrating thing is that the seeds were planted. Sasuke considered killing Naruto like Itachi suggested but didn't. Naruto could have used that to explain why he can't give up on Sasuke when asked.

Sakura should've learned plastic surgery ninjutsu.

When Sakura wants to fake confess to Naruto, Hinata is there. This is the second arc where Naruto and Hinata are together after the Pain arc. One where they team up with Kakashi's dog summons to intercept Sasuke before finding Itachi, and then now at the Kage Summit in mega-japan. Hinata is literally willing to die for him and we don't see her reaction to Sakura's declaration. If Hinata got a single page of looking somber before saying she is against lying to Naruto, but if Sakura thinks that's what's best for Naruto she won't oppose it, then you would have reinforced Hinata's romance. Lee was there and you see his reaction to the fact the girl he likes is saying she'll confess to someone else, but Hinata actually won the bowl and no focus is given to her. Heck, if after Naruto turns her down Hinata tells Sakura that Naruto isn't that simple of a person, and that Sakura already knew that Naruto isn't burdened by his promise to her, you could play that as Sakura liking Naruto more and still being in the bowl!

Sasuke did see Team 7 as his precious friends, which is why he thought they were making him lose the will for revenge. Sasuke refusing to kill Naruto wouldn't be significant if Sasuke himself didn't realize deep down that Naruto was his best friend. Later Itachi is dead and no longer driving him to hatred; his Hawk team is in danger against Bee he flashes back to his old team, implying a similar bond with this group. But then he ditches them all and they serve no purpose. Sasuke fights alongside Naruto to save the world before his redemption. It's so stupid to see him reunited with his old team when he does not care about them at all and having to fight together.

Remember when Naruto stabbed his hand because those Zabuza arc scrubs poisoned him, and he vowed to never run away? Remember when he smeared Hinata's blood on his hand and swore revenge against Neji? Was that the same hand he lost in the finale? Any other hand hijinks?

First half was his atonement journey around the ninja world and seeing what state it's currently in, the second half is tracking the Otsutsuki and getting information about them from Kaguya's dimensions.

Just so we're clear, Sakura is a nobody. What I mean by that is that she had no real stakes in the series until the moment she was put on team 7. By pure chance. Naruto and Sasuke were put on the same team because they wanted the highest rated student to work with the lowest rated student and round things out, but that last spot could have gone to anyone else.

She has no important history or clan, no special powers or heritage, she doesn't even have a real fucking dream. The only thing she had was a petty rivarly with Ino. She has no ties to the other main characters at all except her crush on Sasuke, which everyone agrees became way too fucking overblown. She was a Haruno, which mean nothing to anyone. Even Ino had signature techniques and frankly, a hotter design universally. Her backstory is a drop in the bucket compared to everyone elses, and it's still more engaging.

Hinata on the other hand, had much more going for her. She was the first born of the Hyuga clan's main house, yet she was outclassed by a branch member and her own little sister, which leads to a far more engaging history and potential future moving forward.

I don't want to ramble on too long, but tl;dr, Sakura could have been replaced by anyone of the other Konoha 11 and the series would be better for it.

Except Naruto pretty much lost all romantic interest in her during Shitpoodamn, he accepted she's only after Sasuke, he even BTFO'd her after she tried to tell him she loved him in a bid to get him to stop chasing Sasuke.
If Sakura and Naruto actually got together, it'd be a really sad loveless marriage.Although Sasuke isn't much better, but at least we got Salad out of it.

Gai was, for all intents and purposes, a better character than Lee. Ever since his fight with Gaara, Lee's character never progressed, he stayed exactly the same and there isn't enough surrounding him to develop since he's just mimicking Gai at the end of the day.
