So I was very upset when I saw Evangelion...

>So I was very upset when I saw Evangelion, because it was apparent to me that the people who made it weren't thinking at all about making fun for or gaining the sympathy of the audience. Instead they tried to convince the audience to admit that everybody is sick, practically in the middle of a nervous breakdown, all the time. I don't think you should show things like that to everybody. It's not entertainment for the masses--it's much more interested in admitting that we're all depressed nervous wrecks, I thought. It was a work that told people it was okay to be depressed, and it accepted the psychological state that said if you don't like the way the world works, then it's okay to just pick up a gun and attack someone. I don't think that's a real work of art. When people see that, they begin to realize they are the same way. I think that we should try to show people how to live healthier, fuller lives, to foster their identity as a part of their community, and to encourage them to work happily until they die. I can't accept any work that doesn't say that.

it's Tomino right? The same guy who said in an interview that he had homocidal tendencies and that he might blow if Gundam didn't get made
Yeah it was probably him just having a dark sense of humor, but his critism here is totally bogus
>I can't accept any work that doesn't say that.

End of Evangelion really was too deep for him

People who think this shit is smart are retards.

>they tried to convince the audience to admit that everybody is sick

The hell did you watch?

I watched EoE some time ago and i have some questions:

1 - Was Rei supposed to represent the ultimate individual who joined/became one with god?

2 - So Shinji would be some kind of Christ-like figure or Anti-Christ? Since he brings the end of the world.

3 - Does the instrumentality represents humanity joining back with God and living in happiness like the gayreeks believed?

4 - And Shinji rejects that so rejects God therfore Heaven bad?

Are there any other things that are less known and misunderstood from the movie?

Literal slave morality.

I like your interpretation
Even if Anno denies that any Christian symbolism was in fact symbolic and was just there to give the show an exotic aesthetic, it's still art and your view is valid and supported by that logic.

>it's Tomino right?
No,fuck him!
I saw Tomino at a Lawsons in Shinjuku yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Boss canned coffees in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the cans of coffee and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any Minovsky particle infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each can and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Well, all of that shit he listed out is pretty shallow symbolism, so I think it's in the realm of what Anno would use because it seems exotic and cool.

wtf! this can't be real....

you again? Get the fuck out of here with this room temperature IQ analysis.

Newfags still can't into greentext posting

>Was Rei supposed to represent the ultimate individual who joined/became one with god?
She was the avatar of Lilith, the ancestor of Mankind as we know it.

>So Shinji would be some kind of Christ-like figure or Anti-Christ? Since he brings the end of the world.
Yes, because the Kingdom of Heaven will be inhereted by the meek. Sorry Gendo, Keel and Kaworu, but your lot ain't the Messiah of this story.

>Does the instrumentality represents humanity joining back with God and living in happiness like the gayreeks believed?
Kind of. Mankind becomes one, but erasing everything that makes humans well... humans. Yui, Rei and Kaworu did not aprove.

>And Shinji rejects that so rejects God therfore Heaven bad?
Shinji rejects the false happiness of Instrumentality and choose to accept Reality as it is, no matter how FUBAR it gets - plus allowing anyone else to leg it from the LCL Sea.

Aafter binge watching all of Evangelion when watching it for the first time, I was hit a bit, wondering various questions about the sate fo my current relationships
I have no idea how it worked, but like a month later I discovered Kaiji and after going through its first season's despair realized I had finally forgotten the faggy depressed philosophic question of Evangelion

minovsky particles is something from gundam, a sci-fi term that is somewhat related to something in real life

What a faggot.
Good laughs.

He's not exactly wrong, but that's the dude who directed Ideon and Victory Gundam, he has no right to criticize anything not having an uplifiting aesop

People don't understand that Eva is art more than philosophy. It's presenting/describing the problem, not giving solutions.

Good point mister Tomino but recognizing these harmful elements within yourself is part of the process.

>Even if Anno denies that any Christian symbolism was in fact symbolic
the quote you're thinking of is from tsurumaki (and anyway it's clear the gnostic imagery is used with an understand of its meaning even if the show wasn't intended to be a commentary on the beliefs)

He's not wrong.

why exactly is this in greentext?

amazing pasta

a very japanese thing to say

EoE is not a religious allegory, most of the Judeo-Christian imagery is purely for stylistic effect. Instrumentality is humanity becoming a single entity without a sense of self, but due to Shinji's involvement in its facilitation he's able to reject it and choose the path of humanity instead.

Attached: man it's a hot one.jpg (640x335, 28.94K)

It's a quote

There's a case to be made for it, though not in the Japanese sense.

>Judeo-Christian
Hate this meme

What better way is there to write it? It has heavy elements of both Jewish and Christian mythology. Would you have preferred "Abrahamic"?

>it's Tomino right?
He's always right.

>but his critism here is totally bogus
It's not. Evangelion is Anno's masturbatory mental breakdown and sadbrains bullshit that dresses itself up in Christian symbolism and half-understood psychological concepts to make itself appear deep. At the end of the day though it's really just Anno going "I'M SAAAAAAD". He's saying that it's just masturbatory bullshit that equates wallowing in angst and depression as being an acceptable state and that it's a work that seeks to drag the viewer down instead of raise them up.

Tomino's perspective is understandable, if you accept the premise that the fundamental purpose of art is to inspire.
Whether or not you should is up for debate, but I for one prefer it to the alternative premise that the purpose of art is to express the truth (which is the actual domain of philosophy).

He has some very interesting philosphiocal opinions
youtube.com/watch?v=tcpne25wlvk

the real tragedy is that both of them are just coping with their identity as a loser. Anno wants to just be allowed to give up and be alive without constant obligation or social contract and Tomino just wants to lead everyone to the mediocrity of endless toil and being given permission to live by your oppressors.

Neither one of them thinks of actually winning.

>Tomino will die in your lifetime
I'm not ready bros

You really only know Victory Gundam through memes don't you. It's a dark series but it's not like it has a sad ending or anything and in the end it's ultimately hopeful: a lot of people sacrificed their lives but that sacrifice helped to hopefully bring about a more peaceful future for the next generation and future generations afterwards.

Considering the only thing that "officially" comes after Victory is G-Saviour which is basically memoryholed by Sunrise and may as well be non-canon just assume that was the case.
