Bad luck set me back a bit lately but I got a few pages hand drawn anyways, I hope I'll make it in time. I have the cover line art but the coloring for this one will be tricky. I know I have some flaws but I hope my art improves as I draw. Hope to share this story with people soon but would love to know your impressions so far.
Here, friend.
i wanted to make some colorful mixed media oneshot (stock picture/scanned drawings/digital drawings collage), but the rules state that it has to be black and white, so I'm not wasting time on that.
The way to win these contests are to have amazing or left-field art. Something that looks engaging. Story always comes second in these types of contests. I think a completely western artstyle would have a better run in this contest than "faux-manga" look like this Like, I would highly doubt ONE would even get a shot at this if he were still unknown. His stories are incredible, so are the characters, but his art is subpar, and character development is pretty hard to do in a single chapter.
getting there
very nice, can't wait to read it user
It's not just about being something different, different isn't always better. There's a reason anime and manga are so popular, many in fact, but one of them is the art. Manga aesthetics has a charm that puts it ahead of the usual western comic, hell even western animation had learned more from japan to be anime-like in the past couple of decades. I think learning how these aesthetics work while still giving it your own feel can help give your art more charm.
Focus on your manga/comic composition while practicing your technical skill. Manga is mostly composition first and foremost, half of the previous Tezuka winner aren't that good with art in the first place, but their story telling and composition carried their manga.
I'm at least confident in my characters and creativity. I'm keeping my story simple since we're not allowed much build up for a 55 page story but I hope this is good enough too, I'm still afraid I'll need to rush certain scenes though.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the restrictions are even stricter for nips right? I found this part that seems to say that with 31 pages. If so, that makes me feel a bit better that they're being generous for overseas one shots to have more freedom so we have more time to develop characters and story.
It has always been ~30 pages for Japanese.
Not only that, we have the liberty to break certain rule do things on our accord.
Break certain rule? Like what?
I don't think I'd be able to manage with the japanese page limit though. Since I feel I'd need to show the areas I'm strongest in, which is character interaction but 31 pages would leave pretty much no room for that.
not really rules, but more leeway to critique such as paneling and narration. Most of the Medibang contests have been easy on foreigners compare to their Japanese counterpart, Atleast to me. You should try to read some of their previous contestant works to get the gist of it. shonenjumpplus.com

do I have a shot?
Don't worry, there have much worse entries.
need help making a power system
>55 page limit
>focus on the power system
Interesting, what's this going to be about?
I've gotten to the point where I get anxiety whenever I see OP's image.
This contest has forced me to push my art forward so much and I have progressed but its just not enough
is that clip studio ex?
I only have pro...
great program tho
fucking terrible, this chick is all I have to my name atm
Question! It says Medibang translates manga in this contest but how does this translation work? The fact that they only limit to certain language implies they're using a more complex than just google translate. Does this mean they actually have people doing the translation for each of these one-shots or is there some really advanced software for translating these specific languages? Would like to know in case some of my more complex dialogue ends up sounding awkwardly nonsensical on Odatachi's end.
girl with polio relives her glory days by piloting a giant robot
that looks bretty good
Really interesting user. I'll be looking forward it
just by that premise, I'm fucking sold.
I want to ask a question
Is that fine if i just cleaning my sketch and not making a new lineart for my drawing?
I want my drawing to look more loose and analog, so i think i can acheive it with just cleaning my sketch and not making a lineart
is that okay?
look at pic related for exaple of what i want acheive.
I wish I had a friend that could draw a bit, so I could throw some ideas at him and see if he thinks it's good or not
What method are your using to scan and clean your sketch? There are good ways to clean and bad ones and if you understand it, you can clean better. Also, by sketch, do you just mean the line art or do color by hand too? There are more cleaning techniques you can use if you just scan a line art and color digitally.
Anyone like any entries so far? I read a bunch of them but the competition doesn't seem very strong right now. Even the best(pic related) is still just average.
tails got trolled was good
im sorry but i wanna stay consistent and not write myself in a corner if i dont plan this out early on then ill have major problems in my manga and ill have to resort to the power of friendship or unknown celestial magic powers
How has that shit not been removed yet? Same with Two Piece.
