Higurashi 2020

Why are they taking another stab at making an anime out of this? They failed the first time, so why do it again?

The only way for it not to fail, is to only adapt a few arcs so that they can deliver all the details.
Onikakushi could be 6 episodes and Watanagashi other 6 eps.
Hell, Onikakushi can probably be stretched over 12 episodes, all chapters have tons of dialogue and it would be one HELL of an ending to have the MC doing those things in the final episode

What the hell, you're retarded.
6 episodes for Onikakushi would be already a huge stretch. 12 episodes are impossible to do.
That'd be like one episode for one hour of VN content.

I'd stab my meat deep into Re(i)na

>failed
hears you're u

anyway, there are some things to improve upon, but it remains to be seen if they do.
Dear You inserts, better pacing rather than relatively pointless murder for 26 episodes before hanyuu or rika's memories are introduced.
I'm not one for remakes of anything, and even if the new one is "better", I'll still occasionally watch the old one.
But for a new generation or people who never saw the original, it could be an opportunity to create a better anime that ultimately ends with a stronger hopeful feeling rather than the overwhelming exhaustion of seeing death and madness nonstop for 50 episodes followed by a final good end episode.
I vaguely remember a feeling that many episodes of s1 didn't have relevance to s2, and would have been an overall better experience if they were just cut.

Because this time it has SOUL

>failed
Didn't it garner a huge cult following and introduce basically the whole western world to it?

>trash adaptation
>gather a huge crowd of fanatic braindead normies
>calling it a success

Yes but VNtards who read it years after the anime aired hate it nowadays because it didn't spend five episodes on one club game scene and sped through everything.

This, the anime isn't a masterpiece, but higurashi wasn't exactly a huge success before either. It was a relatively cheap sound novel without even CG's or proper sprites. The anime did a good job of adapting it, even though some good scenes were left out.

Partially right. They need onikakushi, along with (mostly) every other chapter, to be 12 episodes. Each VN arc takes at least ten hours to complete because of the atmosphere and character building before watanagashi. Deens adaptation spent not nearly enough time as they should have.

There is one thing the anime can improve upon the VN tho, which is making the "filler" more enjoyable. They can turn the club activities into kaiji like scenarios or something. Other than that staying true to the second half of chapters is key, and not botching the animation again. Also what said, get dear you in there.

>They need onikakushi, along with (mostly) every other chapter, to be 12 episodes
This has to be a joke. Tell me. How do you plan to stretch Onikakushi on 12 episodes? There are only 3 or 4 major club scenes before the Watanagashi festival, and they don't provide nearly enough content for full episodes. And after the festival, K1 starts becoming paranoid pretty fast and it takes him only like four days until he kills Rena and Mion.
No matter how you put it, 6 episodes is the absolute maximum on how you could adapt Onikakushi without overdoing it.

>muh "Dear" (fanmade vocal cover that's not even played in the VN, holy shit) You
Most overrated BGM ever. There are countless other amazing tracks that nobody ever mentions because all their knowledge about the Higurashi VN apparently comes from the fucking Niconico Medley. I'd take Daily Passing By, Mienai Nanika ni Obieru Yoru, Shirokiri no Itadaki or Assault Operations over it any day.

>muh, how can people not agree with my retarded opinion? They must have not even played the VN

>omg higurashi has to have "dear you"!
>what do you mean it never actually played in the vn?
Nothing is more autistic than people obsessing over a single song.

I'm a simple man, if they ruin this OST I stop watching and only shitpost about the new naime.

And yet, here you are, obsessing over a single song.

>n-no u!
Go comment on Youtube about how much you love it, Lilium and IOSYS.

Sadly, the BGM from the first 4 arcs in particular are impossible to keep since they're just copyright-free midis.

Ok maybe not 12, but more than 4. Obviously each club scene shouldnt be an episode in itself, but slowing it the fuck down will add a good chunk of time (maybe taking up half an episode each?). If you consider everything that happens, ie the 3 club events, junk yard, meeting tomitake, character introductions, watanagashi, ooishi meeting, rena build up, needle present, k1 investigating, getting the bat, rain scene, and ending, thats atleast 8 episodes. This isnt taking into account some creativity they could add like throwing some tip scenes in.

Onikakushi: 6 episodes
Watanagashi: 6 episodes
Tatarigoroshi: 8 episodes
Himatsubushi: 4 episodes

Meakashi: 8 episodes
Tsumihoroboshi: 8 episodes
Minagoroshi: 10 episodes
Matsuribayashi: 13 episodes

Yeah, 4 episodes were too few, I agree on that.
But 8 episodes for Onikakushi, the second shortest chapter? I mean, if you stretch it, I could see that you could fit the introduction to Hinamizawa, the club games, the junkyard scenes and the festival in 3 episodes, but after that?
K1 talks to Ooishi, becomes paranoid during the next conversation with Rena, and starts questioning his friends. That's half an episode at most. After that, there's some back and forth with Rena where she follows him and stuff, so that's a full episode.
Then comes the phone scene and K1 takes a day off and Mion and Rena visit and "threaten" him. That's not a full episode worth of content. You'd have to take the weekend + rain scene for that.
And after that's over, K1 starts walking around with a baseball bat, is confronted by Rena, runs away and finally kills her and Mion in his house. There's really not much more going on in Onikakushi.

When will it start airing?

October most likely. Or Winter 2021

club activities were great in the VN though

I dont think your taking down time into account. Higurashi is atmosphereic, and events dont just chain togother one after the other. Im not sure it would be great for the "normie" audience, but scenes like keiichi walking to school with rena and mii before ooishi encounter adds suspense and lower the viewers gaurd for whats to come. Small stuff like that prolong the episode by like 5 minutes, and those build up.
