it's pretty much the quintessential design. it doesn't look too skewed towards any particular type of combat and has all the typical weaponry one would expect a gundam to generally have. it also has probably the most stereotypically gundam head model and it also has a good color scheme while not having an overly busy design.

some gundams from the various series only have a few of the distinguishing features that make them immediately recognizable as a gundam but this has all of them and it doesn't look half loaded in like the OG that was alright and is iconic, but looks kinda shitty and blocky by later standards of the series.

But it had the best Gundam couple ever.

Because it's an evolved Mk II which was already more or less perfect. What's a shame is that the franchise didn't follow the lead of the Zeta and continue to make more daring and interesting designs instead of the endless stream of "Gundam with different colors and bits"
