Miyazaki has had more than one success, so I really wouldn't compare him to John K.

The man is a genius. But he's also an asshole.

His son isn't even incompetent, he was just forced into the director's seat for Earthsea and had to undergo a steep learning process he was never up for. Miyazaki's feelings on the film are probably not only directed at his son, but at that entire experience.

I'm convinced that Goro is directing that CGI thing just to spite on Hayao and tear down the studio's reputation in front of his father. Likely Hayao sees the studio as his "real son", and Goro wants to kill it while Hayao watches.
Who knows, in a few years we might see him going KyoAni on Ghibli's archive room.

as I understood it though Goro's projects got better the more he did of them. Though I'm sure pissing off his dad with CG is just a bonus.

He apparently doesn't really believe in the hopeful messages of his movies, he makes them like that in the faint hope that children might be inspired by them to make the future a better place than he could imagine.

Honestly, I agree with Miyazaki. We shouldn't be handing out congratulations and compliments to people just because they worked hard at something, that's what they should do by default.

If you want to be treated as an amazing person, you should actually do something amazing. But these types of morals are lost to the younger generation. Maybe it's because now they hand out awards for participation.

Stop talking about the meta aspect of anime production that the personalities behind it if all your knowledge is derived from what people say on Zig Forums and in youtube videos.

I wouldn't be surprised that for long as he lived he has seen a lot of corruption in regards to humanity that makes him bitter towards it. So I guess he wants to make some positive impact on the world even if it may be pointless effort through his films. To at least say he tried to bring something positive to the world then allow the world to just simply rot while doing nothing.

I feel like japanese culture in general is much better about this, which is why "really shitty artists" over there are at least shadman-level while shitty artists over here means sonic ocs drawn in crayon. In japan, I think people are more objective about their sense of accomplishment, and weigh it against the world, instead of their own past and others on their little bubble.
