I agree, but both Haruhi and Madoka were way worse about this. At least EP tried to have substance... those two are all just visual fluff and over-the-top garbage.

Angel Beats is worse

It was a pretty fun series, with some cool visual and literary references that made it probably seem up its own ass, but regardless the series was good.

I wouldn’t even call Ergo Proxy bland visually. It’s straight up fucking ugly most of the time.

I like to go back to it every couple of years. For me, that's enough for something to be good.
