bait
He literally does nothing to change it.
Why was L so likeable but everyone hated Near?
But he kills people, so he's a killer, what's the problem? Killing isn't a sin or a crime if you're a god.
Because L had build up while Near was just L's replacement
And Near didnt actually accomplish anything himself, he always just blundered into the solution by other characters incompetence
The common patrician perception is that Death Note had good production value and the plot was retarded, kind of like HxH (2011).
Yes it is.
>Was this written by a 9 year old dimwit?
Yes. Death Note is one of those 'anime dumb people think is smart', like Code Geass, Stains;Gate, Attack on Titan, Monster and so on.
The entirety of Near's character was just a copy/paste of L.
Know any actually smart but equally as thrilling and captivating series like Death Note?
Or is the latter a sensation only achieved by dumb shlock?
It was a blunder of the authors, Near was too similar to L without the buildup that made us like him like said. Then, it was pretty clear that the authors wanted to have his cake and eat it too, they wanted the pay off of L's death while at the same time waving off the consequences with a replacement goldfish. Not that the story was the same after his death, Kira got to impersonate L and Near had to work with burguers, but the character was more or less the same. Mello was more interesting, I liked the fact that he worked with mobsters and other criminals, showing how they wouldn't just passively let themselves get killed by a Japanese kid. They would take lots of measures and would easily be able to hide their names, something that the writer conveniently ignores when he describes Light's perfect world with near zero crime and no war.

yesh, your post was indeed written by a 9 year old dimwit.
How? Human law only applies to humans, and gods define what's a sin and what isn't.
unironically psycho pass's first season, it does everything death note failed to do right.
the antagonist actually has a coherent world view and isn't some moron with no understanding of political philosophy.
Imagine being hailed as a genius but unironically believing killing criminals (most of whom are already behind bars) will make the world a better place, the people fucking the world up are the ones who decide what is and isn't a crime.
If gods meddle with human lives they cannot cop out with "I'm a god, I make my own laws".
uh, yeah they can. The only reason to follow a law is to benefit yourself. You follow the law, you are rewarded or aren’t punished. Break the law, and you suffer or are directly punished. Gods don’t have to follow the laws that they gave to humans because the laws are designed FOR humans
Monster doesn't belong in that list
So Light should have gone after politicians and CEOS?
To be fair, Death Note was quite original and they at least tried to depict a battle of wits and managed to make it interesting. They bit more than they could chew, it was pretty good at the beggining and then they fell into the same trap of powerlevel creep with L and Light pulling more and more ridiculous gambits, but I feel that the authors never pretended that it was super smart series or a dissertation of morality. It was primarily meant for entertainment, a competition between two cool characters pulling off bullshit to each other. The fans try to make it into the smartest thing ever because they saw it when they were teens and were impressed, but the writers never forgot that they were writing a comic for the SJ.
Yes
Why not? You can't charge a dog or a hurricane with murder, and yet they can kill people. You can't even charge the DN Shinigami with murder, even though they aren't even a bit divine, and yet they're killers and wouldn't object or care about being called like that.
honestly the concept of a notebook that kills whoever's name is written in it was just a great premise, it's a shame the plot didn't live up to it.
If a mangaka were to start a series with the same concept but a different plot/setting could he get sued?
Light was probably just blue-pilled. Also, he wants to be seen as a god of justice and the clearest way to portray that is to kill criminals. Messing with CEO’s and politicians would only hurt his image and may even obstruct his plans, as he would then have all the significant power structures out to get him.
>the antagonist actually has a coherent world view and isn't some moron with no understanding of political philosophy
That actually makes sense, Light was book smart but deep down he was just a teenager that was always told that he's a genius.
>but I feel that the authors never pretended that it was super smart series or a dissertation of morality
This. I think people always conveniently forget that this is also a shonen series directed at fucking kids. If Ohba tried to make it smart he'd have chosen an older demographic and made it a seinen. Obviously as it is not the series needs to be this dumbed down and heavily compressed with its themes so kids can enioy it.
The fact that so many adults like it, is a feat unto itself.
>animewatchers
Disgusting
Serial killers don't get to choose their nicknames. Most actually hate what the people give them thus inspiring to kill even more.
The point is that Light deems himself a god although he isn't and deep down he knows that so why is he ok with being branded a killer when he wants to be seen as a righteous god who isn't as low as a mere murderer? That makes no sense.
the plot was good, though. Light’s careless actions are explained by his pride and god-complex, which are exacerbated through the power that the death note has. L doesn’t simply win by predictable stopping Kira while he is alive, but dies, which basically proves to Near that Light is Kira. It is a great plot given the infinite directions it could go with something like the death note
>If a mangaka were to start a series with the same concept but a different plot/setting could he get sued?
If you do it in Jump itself it might be alright, nothing happened to Kishimoto after ripping off Ninku
Near may have been a bland L copy but his theme was kino.

I forgot how godlike the ost is.
To use a modern buzzword, Light was quite oblivious of the optics of the situation.
it’s just a name, dude. Obviously it had a positive connotation with a lot of people. The name can evoke fear or respect, depending on whether or not you’re a criminal. And a god who isn’t feared isn’t much of a god at all
all around the show’s aesthetics are god-tier
>falling for Near's ruse
Near joined the fight for revenge. He also saw through the flaws of humans (including Kira) and exploited them like crazy. Only near the end Kira realized that he wasn't playing hide-and-seek with one person and overestimated Near's presence so much that Mello wasn't on his radar most of the time. The manga demonstrated in great details Kira's flaws and his death was the proof Kira was utterly a human and a failure.
>The manga demonstrated in great details Kira's flaws
So Mello is actually a well written character in the manga?
My impression was that he was a wild card, but because Near knew beforehand Mello's aim was also Kira that's why Near tried to cooperate with him, directly and indirectly. The diversion was a factor because Kira couldn't handle two-timing at all.
Too bad the anime left out quite a lot in the second arc. It didn't even show much both Near and Mello cooperated actually. The anime made it seem like they just hate each other.
Too compressed.
How the FUCK did Light lose?
"Even gods must answer to their sins"
I read some comments about the part where Near figured Mikami was bullshit and found out they are animeonlies. Color me surprised, the 2nd part is rushed. I only read the manga so that part was believable to me.
