How do people still misinterpret the "I love Emilia" scene? If you actually paid attention you would understand that he is affirming himself to Rem.

I always find it funny when emiliafags spam the "I love Emilia" meme, it's like they're reveling in the fact that they're speedwatchers and can't understand what they're looking at past shallow superficial memes, similar to how to they like their shit wife. It's almost embarrassing. Almost.

"I love Emilia" was not a rejection. Rejection means rejecting one's feelings, Subaru does nothing of the sort. He accepts her feelings and literally grabs her and holds her closer.

And that's still in the anime. In the novels "I love Emilia" plays out much more intimately. It's about Subaru being who Rem thinks he is. It doesn't matter whether or not she was "rejected" as Subaru then confesses to her 3 days later which was cut from the anime since your anime director seethed at Rem's existence ruining Subaru and Emilia's ship.

I've been watching the 25 episode series and to be fair, Emilia doesn't actually get a lot of chances to display any personality.

She doesn't say much or do much throughout the series. She's just this ... thing ... that Subaru is obsessed over.
We get a story arc with the villagers
We get a story arc with Rem and Ram
We get character development with them
We even get a side arc of [The Greatest Swordsman and His Wife] but...

In there series we don't know anything about Emelia's life, childhood, friends, preferences, likes, dislikes, whatever. She's just... there. An ornament for Subaru to hang his obsessions on.

Maybe there's something in the director's cut or the OVAs or books that actually gives her more depth than "I'm studying to be a princess" and "I exist for Subaru to obsess on", but from the basic TV show the little girl in the village with the dog has more of a backstory and depth than Emelia.

I'm not talking shit, I'm just saying the 25 episode TV series gave us nothing to work with so... yeah, I'd go with Rem.

OVA 2, which is Emilia centric as it covers the side story set between her backstory and the start of the show with Puck and Emilia being the only characters basically from the main story, other than Roswaal who doesn't show up until the end.

Her backstory is specifically is NOT the movie, it's in S2. The movie covers a inconsequential borefest.
