Don't even bother watching anything else from them past 2012, Hyouka was their last good show and it only goes downhill from there

What was good about Hyouka? I dropped it at episode 1 because it was extremely style over substance and the MC gave up his ideals to hang out with the girl in like one day. Does it get better?

It's decent honestly, nothing too spectacular but the show does get better after the first episode. I only chose Hyouka as the end point since, while not being the best of the best, is still a lot better than most of Kyoani's catalog post-2012.

VEG is as honest as it gets. It never hides its intention of showing you what love generally means; be it friendly love, family love, comradeship love or the love of a stranger.
Moreover it's quite blunt with its statements regarding pain and trauma, and human helplessness.

Hyouka is trash. Good direction but awful story, premise and setting.
I remember being 12 and liking it, thinking it had a lot to say when it actually didn't.

I can't remember what happened exactly and I don't want to reread it, but Gilbert escaped certain death, just like Violet did.
He lost his memories for a while and he also has a prosthesis like Violet.
They reunite at the end, and it's a pretty happy end.
