tri. was an absolute disaster so Kizuna was made to "end" the original timeline and Adventure: is the beginning of a new timeline with the same recognisable cast.

There are some people who are still mad that Sora and Tai didn't end together and shit on everything digimon that hasn't retcon it

It doesn't even conclude anything. Tai loses Agumon, but they're together in the epilogue. And the producers said the epilogue's still canon. Instead of resolving anything, it just leaves you wondering what Digital World magic happens to bring them back together off-screen?

Hence why I put "end" in quotes because it ends nothing at all. If it weren't for the fact the animation and battles are better than tri., it would be far worse than that six OVA disaster solely because the plot is completely nonsensical.

It's not an issue of the old series having problem (although the animation of the battles was pretty bad), it's an issue of them being unable to release a successful new digimon series. So, they went back to the original cast.

The plot is mostly new though, reusing various elements from the original, but all mixed up rather than just retelling the original series.

Why do they do this? The Chosen Children aren't normal people anymore. You can't turn them into normal people when they've saved the world half a dozen times and have connections the average person doesn't have.

Agreed. It's a complete bewilderment. I wonder if that's part of the reason Hiroyuki Kakudou walked out on the project.

The worst part of all of this is unlike tri., Kizuna wasn't written by a complete nobody who had no connection to the franchise. It was written by Akatsuki Yamatoya who worked on the original show.

This is the episode being animated by Gallop who have done work on Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal and Arc-V so hopefully it'll be good.

Adventure is the safest Digimon anime to revive. The show lost viewers big time when Adventure's original 104 episode run ended.
