J-Novel Club has announced at their Anime Expo Lite panel they've licensed Hajime Kanzaka & Rui Araizumi's Slayers --...
why
Like a few decades too late
fucking finally.
Because the guy who runs the company is an oldfag who wants to revive dead shit like Crest of the Stars.
He's amazing, he doesn't even care if it makes a profit, he just wants it to break even so he can revive more dead series. I wish I had the money to do that, theres so much I'd want to get translated.
I've been scouring eBay for the old Tokyopop softcovers for ages. Got lucky last year. Here's hoping that we get past volume 8 this time and also some of the spinoff series.
It's not that he doesn't care because he doesn't have unlimited money, but he puts the profits to license stuff that he knows won't sell.
I'll forever respect him for licensing all of the Hayakawa SF stuff and quite a lot of yuri.
FUCKING REMASTER THE ANIME ALREADY YOU SHITTY HACKS!!!
>Linna
Fucking ruined.
It was a typo, it's actually Lina.
Is this the weekend Slayers thread?
Do they even have the cels? Quite often remasters are impossible because cels were sold, lost in fires, etc.
They did still have the cels for the movies and specials...
I'm just happy they are finally fixing their website and app, I don't think it can be worse than their current versions.
nice for the 10 person who want it
The website is usable but the app is pointless in the first place, and to be honest it seems like it will remain pointless, reading in the mobile browser is more convenient when the app is that bad.
Aren’t all the tokyopop novels already online though? I could have sworn I downloaded most of them.
They never finished TLing them
Most remasters would be done by scanning the film reels at a higher resolution. The thing with cinema movies is that you usually have a higher-resolution film format (e.g. 35mm vs. 16mm) and more copies. For TV content you hopefully have something at the studio archives and what was sent to a handful of TV stations. With cels they'd have to recreate everything scene-by-scene, which is pretty much never feasible. Or if you're unlucky, they just Qtec the DVD masters and release that.
That's just the first eight main series novels (out of 16) and doesn't include spinoffs like Slayers Special (so no Naga)
>35mm vs. 16mm
Even if the TV series were done on 16mm it'd still be much better quality than the dvds
>With cels they'd have to recreate everything scene-by-scene
Yea, people just call it rescanning the cels because most don't know how a remaster is done
>Qtec the DVD masters and release that
Didn't they already do that? The current BDs look like absolute ass
>The current BDs look like absolute ass
Which BDs do you mean? I just downloaded the movie ones when they came out, and they looked okay. Didn't really look much into them.
>Hardcover Omnibus editions
So Slayers gets new editions in Japan with nice covers and they decided not to bother? Trust J-Novel Club to absolutely fuck this up.
Movie BDs are okay, they're remasters (and truly gorgeous ones at that). I'm talking about the TV series BD release. Pic related.
Oh. Either I didn't notice those or I did my best to forget they existed. Either way that makes the chance of a proper remaster close to zero.
Looks like the novel fan translator reached out to them and is getting a response.
I think they've had fan translators join them in the past too when picking up a series they were doing, which is pretty awesome of them to do.
Thats pretty rad
