It's also just a cool psychological look into the main cast, the animations they use ars more entertaining and fitting than just watching him sit down in a chair is it not?
And dont act like the didnt run into problems around half way through the show which messed up a lot of things, unless you watched this show in 1995 you have no reason to be mad at the ending since Eoe exists(Which isn't completely 100% canon but still kind of is, it's weird)

The fact of the matter is that EoE, while an amazing film, is unnecessary because Evangelion is the story of Anno and that story is completed in 25 and 26. Anno was perfectly fine with 25' and 26' never having been made outside of a financial perspective.

I pretty sure anno would have wanted to put stuff that was in the movie into the show, in the show we see Asuka's fight with the manufactured Evas for example, personally I was okay with the original end, but I also really like the Eoe

I once met a girl who never watched Eva and said she wasn´t interested in giving it a try but LOVED Madoka and Rahxephon.
