What is the point of being unable to choose your nen type?

What is the point of being unable to choose your nen type?

Same reason people can't choose the looks they're born with.

it no like a mutation or someshit, is just energy, its like you cant use eletricy for charge your phone just for turn on the PC.

Could you chose the kind of music you like ?

They're not restricted by type, it's just what they're naturally best at.

it's just like anything else in this world. You can't choose your skin color, bloodtype or iq for example.

nen is just congenital trait.

because if you could everyone would pick specialist to get free asspulls

The people who stick with their type get better asspulls than most specialists anyway.

Look at killua and his godspeed shit.

Nen is straight bullshit anyway. Fucking Kurapiki is a conjurer. Who conjures chains. That turn him into a specialist. That is a master at all of the types of nen.

Like, fucking what the goddamn fuck, man.

That analogy only works if we are talking about nen color. Irl you can choose if you want to get strong or get fast

Technically you can choose to use other types, but you'll just be not as efficient as someone who has a natural aptitude towards it. If someone wasn't an emitter they could still learn to output the same power as razor they'd just use up way more nen to do so. Some people are better at things than others. Besides, it helps prevent the plothole of why doesn't x character just pick his nen type to be this to make a broken ability. If one can choose your nen type is it a one shot deal? Or can you continue to change it? Togashi just wanted to introduce hard rpg elements to his martial arts power system.

It's like in Naruto, it's just what you're talented at. I think it's unfair that Specialization (and to a lesser extent, Conjuration's 1% talent in Specilization) are the only ones that can use powers from it, plus they have access to the regular abilities.

His chains don't turn him into a specialist speed reader. It's his Scarlet eyes.

and you can totally dedicate your life to be an emission god even if you're naturally a conjurer. you only won't get as far as a natural emitter who did the same.
this is the same as trying to compete with someone like michael phelps, whose body was made for swimming. you can dedicate as much time as you want, you will never actually beat him at swimming since his hands are massive, his knees and feet bend in strange way, his body is shaped for maximum water dynamic efficiency and his lungs are fuck huge.
same thing

people do dabble in different typings to make their ability the way they want it. Netero's Hyakushiki Kannon emission, manipulation, enhancement and transformation.

It doesn't matter when the author can make anyone do whatever his butthole said that day.
>Enhancer: I can make fire swords with my aura!
>Transmutter: I can make fire swords with my fire aura!
>Conjurer: I can invoke fire swords!
>Manipulator: I can make fire swords by turning the air into fire!
>Emitter: I can make flying fire swords with my aura!
>Specialist: I can just fart fire swords!
Just wait for Hisoka to turn time and space into rubber and cum!

To make eugenics even more important in the series.

the point of nen is to make powers that fit the characters and reflect the person's interests, therefore acting as character development.
the guy with the hidey hole portals is a good example. no not knov, the guy with the knife. all he wants is to kill and watch people freak out from a safe distance. he serves as a wild card that will lead to more trouble in the future.
an active guy that takes risks and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty doing crazy sick plays.
all this is apparent with his power description alone.

nen is based on personality, when pika's eyes turn red his personality changes a little giving him a new type, this case specialist.

>What is the point of being unable to choose your race?

>there are multiple ways to accomplish one task

>Conjuration's 1% talent in Specilization

What the fuck is that. So if you’re a Conjurer, you can choose to waste your Nen by putting it all into some unique Specialization Hatsu that totally sucks because it’s so fucking weak?

Sorry, it's hard to keep track of bullshit asspulls in the series

Is NEN really though? I know Araki probably pulled this out his ass, but something something about if we think it, it’s possible

Of course.

Because you don't get to chose how you're born. The winners are those that can make due with what nature gave them.

I think the system would flow a lot better if specialist was replaced by something else and specialist was sorta the middle of all of them. Specialist is supposed to be shit that doesn't fit in other categories so treating it like it's own category makes no sense

Kurapika is not a master of all types of nen, even with the Scarlet Eyes/Emperor Time. Under ET, Kurapika only unlocks the full potential of every category if he trained in every category, but his actual proficiency in those categories stay the same.
Kurapika likens his Conjurer skill to Level 10. Transmuter is Level 8 (80%). Specialist is Level 0 (1%). Enhancer and Manipulator are Level 6 (60%). Emitter is Level 4 (40%). Basically, Kurapika can access the same power and abilities as if he trained solely in a single category after he found out he was a conjurer, but only at the percentage of his proficiency to conjuration.
Kurapika can match Level 4 emitters and Level 6 enhancers/manipulators under ET, but he cannot match a Level 10 anything aside from conjuration.
Several of Kurapika's hatsu can ONLY be activated with ET, such as the thumb, index finger, and little finger; and several others are almost entirely useless unless he goes for ET. Kurapika under ET loses a single hour of his lifespan for every second he is in ET. It's also something he can't control; he can't deactivate ET like a Sharingan. As long as his eyes are red, he is automatically in ET. Kurapika had to put actual Limitations on his nen so that he can only use one of his hatsu (the middle finger) against the Phantom Troupe, or otherwise he dies. Also, when Kurapika used ET throughout Yorkshin, he had a fever for several days afterwards, and not even Senritsu's music nen could heal him.

Fuck off retarded speedreader

Try baiting harder

I really liked the Nen system at first, but once you find out that the whole "penalty for using a category outside the one you're born with" applies TWICE, it sounds super restrictive. Like the bullshit about how you can only use 80% of a level 8 category, assuming your main category is at level 10. Which surely means that instead of 80%, your neighboring category is actually at 64% efficiency.

Not to mention that Nen seems a bit inconsistent when it comes to how the user creates their powers. Like, Gon is encouraged to chant "Janken" when he charges his power, merely because it "feels right", and he should trust his instincts. I think it's also mentioned that trying to merely copy another power you've seen before would just make it worthless, unless copying is specifically your power. With the implication being that for a power to be effective, it needs to truly be your own. But then you have the three jobbers from the Heavens Arena who are stated to all be idiots because the powers THEY thought up and created on their own were just "wrong". But going off everything else, since its not stated that they just shamelessly ripped off their idea from someone else, it doesn't seem like there should be such a thing as a "wrong" power.
