I disagree, she risen over the series and only "lost" because Sheryl was a much better character ... in fact I would say the difference is as Ranka was supported and babied over the whole series, Sheryl that had a similar past not only was used but discarded and managed to climb back on her own by her own efforts instead of Ranka that pretty much ended up having everything served to her, I still remember the last episode when Ranka slapped Sheryl from dying in order to give her another win over Sheryl.

So no, she wasnt unfairly shat on, she had the writers behind her but lost even with that because Sheryl was a much better and interresting character that Ranka with the writers ending sabotaging Ranka by making her never really struggling because of how passive Ranka was.
