I have come to the realization that male characters are absolutely unnecessary. Females are more aesthetically pleasing no matter how you look at it. They're cuter, they're cooler. it's always better if it's a girl and it drastically increases my enjoyment. Why do male characters even exist?

As an artist I kinda agree. I think up a cool concept or design for a character and... There's little to no reason to make it male.
Making it male just feels like a Power fantasy or self insert, which is in fact what most artists probably do. But that same cool design on a girl? Now we're talking, it feels like she has more personality.
A think a big part of it though is that there's fewer cool girls in media they still don't have a Goku or Lelouch so filling the void is nice

This is true though. All of the cool girl concepts I imagine are derived from actual male heroes like Joe (Ashita), Simon & Kamina (Tengen Toppa) or Guts (Berserk) to name a few.
Or Goku. A female Goku / Gon / Luffy would be very original to have as the main lead in the shonen jump. Or what about a female Naruto.
Women aren't that way in real life but apparently almost no one tries to spice it up and recreate those good journeys with the weaker gender, it'd be such a success

Females make for better hero stories if well written since they're usually weaker and we feel more intensely towards them. A guy being bullied? The usual.
Now, depicting the high-school girl being punched and kicked by her classmates? Rage inducing. Violence in general feels worse if a girl is at the receiving end since we know they can't take all that much punishment and they are emotional creatures, so it's also easier to tolerate a girl crying than - say - Deku or Shinji.
If you write it well, a girl can make for the best hero since it'll feel like she overcame bigger obstacles to be as competent as a guy.
