Why does Zig Forums keep parroting things without ever providing a source ? It's almost as if this board is filled with low I.Q 3rd worlders.

Proofs?

>The last line from Asuka was not planned out
people's reaction to this is interesting to me. on the one hand, people scrutinize every morsel they can from eva because most don't have a religion anymore and they need to point their fanatical energies somewhere. but like any piece of art or religion for that matter it'll be shown to be imperfect under a powerful enough microscope.

that being said, the fact that the final line was not written in the script and that it was arrived at by that particular motivation doesn't mean that that is its only meaning. theoretically they tried a lot of different ways to arrive at a conclusive line of dialogue to end the movie/series, and it just so happened that asking what she'd say in that circumstance gave them a vague and almost mundane answer. so just because that was the source doesn't meant that that was the only reason they actually chose to go that route. just because the VA was only thinking of the masturbation doesn't mean that that's the final meaning behind the line.

ambiguity itself is a valid goal. part of the point of that line can be to give a sense of inconclusivity. to rob you of a nice bow. ultimately i think it's just a real nice, efficient way to sum up all the complicated shit that is going on and will be going on with those two kids from then on. being too explicit would have been less good.

>tl;dr you can know the inspiration for an artistic choice, but that doesn't make it the only reason it was included in the final version

Good point, but is there any actual source for the factoid in the first place ?

>Anno made EoE to spite the fans, Tv ending is the real ending.

1 EOE is foreshadowed in previous episodes.
2 Mass Production EVAs are brought up in a conversation
3 the final episodes show Misato and Ritsuko shot to death
4 The viewer is given absolutely no context to interpret 25-26. Why is misato dead but still talking? What is INSTRUMENTALITY? What the fuck happened at all? Why are people in a collective dream?
5 EOE is a fucking masterpiece, how do you spite fans with the best thing ever?

EOE was clearly planned out before with ep 25 being an afterthought either because of budget cuts or because they knew they could make a movie sequel but ultimately 26 and EOE are two pieces of one puzzle.
The viewer can only make sense of 26 by watching eoe and only understand the hopeful and positive message by watching 26.

It was revealed to me in a dream.

>The symbolism in Evangelion is only there to look cool.
We've made the best anime in history purely accidentally, tee-hee~

>"feels bad man"
Is a character's expression of feeling bad. It's not a plot point that defines what story means.

Asuka literally just read Shinjis mind and figured out he was using her unconscious body, and she feels bad about it.

If you think it's meaningful then explain it.
Come on, you said there was a meaning, prove it, show it.

If you think this is accidental or is there just to look cool, you're a moron.

Miyamura:
I had been thinking directors should convey their ideal how the show shold be to us. But Annno pitchs us questions such as "What do you think for yourself if things went on such and such ways to you?"
After recording all lines of the movie, I was called to the studio because the final line needed to be revised. Ogata came there too as it was Asuka and Shinji's scene.
Asuka's final line was "Anta nankani korosareru nowa mappira yo!" in the film
scenario. Annno didn't live with my line no matter how many times I tried. Ogata and
I were at a loss how we should play what Annno wanted to express; she even
tried to ride on me and choke me to meet his demand. He must have been pursuing reality.
Concerning the final line we adopted, I'm not sure whether I should say about it in fact.
At last Anno asked me " Miyamura, just imagine you are sleeping in your
bed and a stranger sneaks into your room. He can rape you anytime as you are
asleep but he doesn't. Instead, he masturbates looking at you, when you wake
up and know what he did to you. What do you think you would say?"
I had been thinking he was a strange man, but at that moment I felt disgusting. So
I told him that I thought "Disgusting". And then he sighed and said "... thought as much." He said. " I thought as much. "

>Dude the cross means suffering and burden LMAO, lets put it in the show for looking cool.

If this is what you consider huge symbolism then i'm sorry read a book maybe.

note of course that "disgusting" is not the only way "kimochi warui" can be translated. i don't speak a lot of moon but it's a really common everyday phrase, and it's used for shit like "i feel sick" or "gross" or "i have a bad feeling about this" etc

i love the show but in japan this is probably a lot cooler than it is in the usa

here it plays as on-the-nose as all the jesus shit in the snyderman movies. which is to say a little cringey. tho it is fun to put gendo on the cross since he's not the obvious choice of christ analog

>I feel like shit
Will forever be my canon interpretation.

>note of course that "disgusting" is not the only way "kimochi warui" can be translated.
It is also literally the first thing Shinji says after being submerged in the LCL, and the second thing he ever says inside an Eva.
After which Misato berates him, what a bitch.

>but in japan this is probably a lot cooler than it is in the usa
The japanese arent largely christian and they use christian imagery as some sort of exotic "gaijin thing" it's just a cool gaijin token to them .

Not that i'm mad about muh cultural appropriation. I consider this kind of shit adorable and endearing, kike Schwarzenegger playing in Red Heat it's not offensive it's fucking cute.

Yep, Asuka's original line was going to be: "I'll never be killed by someone like you, absolutely not!"

Attached: Miyamura-as-Asuka.jpg (540x299, 50.07K)

i honestly think this speaks more to the ubiquity and versatility of the phrase than it does to any intended parallels. they probably weren't thinking too hard about what shinji's first eva babby words were, they were just thinking of something that can mean everything and nothing at the same time. and something as banal as "kimochi warui" probably fit well enough that it was annoying to anno how obvious it was.

Yeah, that's kind of my point. It's not "I feel awful" or "how disgusting", it's "kimochi warui". One of those lines that you borderline can't translate without losing some of the meaning. If EoE was released in 2010, that frame would have 8 separate translator notes that would put "Check" to shame.

It's not on the nose retard and it's still cool.

you brainlets always say as imagery and allegories need to have some sort of 4d chess intricate secret for you to find you on your stupid analysis youtube videos or something. in evangelion especially, it is extremelly important to set the tone of the series, it shows that it isnt just a sci-fi with giant robots and monsters, they have some transcendental mythical quality to it, something ethereal, beyond mere human technology. if there werent any of this religious allegory in eva, and all being straight up "this is a robot built by our brightest minds and this is an evil alien, go kill it" it would be a completly different anime, even with all the freudian psychology behind it. so saying it is used "just because its cool' is completly retarded

>they use christian imagery as some sort of exotic "gaijin thing" it's just a cool gaijin token to them .
The whole point of this thread is that's not the case

Your point is weak as shit see You aren't good at making points.

i'm sorry my man it is really really obvious. it's a giant fucking cross. it's almost as bad as pic related.

it's ok, metaphorical/allegorical imagery doesn't have to be some crazy esoteric shit to be good or cool. (let's be clear tho, pic related is not good or cool.) i just think this one with gendo is one of the more egregiously obvious ones in the show, that might have been a little lighter handed if it weren't made by jappos.

It's a fucking shadow casted by some beams, you wouldn't know about it if it wasn't pointed out to you !

Based retard-kun.

do you... only understand symbolism when it's pointed out to you, user? even when it's this obvious? i... man that sounds like a shitty head to live in. now i just feel bad.

>The last line from Asuka was not planned out if you look into it. Anno asked the VA what her real response would be if she had discovered that someone had masturbated over her
true
>Anno made EoE to spite the fans
false
>Tv ending is the real ending.
depends on your definition of "real ending"
>The symbolism in Evangelion is only there to look cool.
religious yes, sexual no

5/10 made me reply

you absolute mong retard
do i have to post the sources again?

What i mean is the cross blends in the background and it's hard to notice, it's not shoved in your face.
Of course once you see the cross, you know what it supposed to represent.

the idea that symbols are just decoder ring codes that all explicitly represent some specific thing is the worst

>>The symbolism in Evangelion is only there to look cool.
Tsurumaki said this in an interview.
>There is no actual Christian meaning to the show, we just thought the visual symbols of Christianity look cool
>web.archive.org/web/20020622231224/http://www.akadot.com/article/article-tsurumaki2.html
And alongside Anno's comment about Evangelion being picked for sounding complicated, retards just assumed this mean any kind of symbols was simply there to be cool and had no meaning behind their placement.
Despite Tsurumaki never saying they didn't mean anything, only that they didn't have a christian meaning.

They are clearly saying this to avoid controversy or to put themselves down.
this has clear thematic and narrative purpose and the digits confirm.
