I didn't have cable and only saw random bits and was mostly in the same boat despite growing up in prime DBZ time. I watched Kai and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Giant Bomb guys did a watch podcast along with it that is PRETTY FUNNY as well.

FUNImation notoriously cuts it up into fucking pieces, adds in dialogue and generally fucks about.
Faulconer's rock synth is garbage and completely kills what the original artists were trying to portray.

This is the one time I'll disagree with subs over dubs. The dub is fantastic cheesy fun, which fits the material. The original VA is trash. What the hell were they thinking using the same voice as kid goku?

Not all of the Faulconer music is bad, if anything, it's just misused. Piccolo has a GREAT theme for his character and Buu in particular got some nice blend of innocent and childlike yet menacing while there's even tracks for relaxed or comedic moments without any electric or synth shit at all.
Also, it wasn't even his idea to constantly have it playing in scenes.

unabridged funimation dub, it's especially enjoyable if you're high. I used to think I didnt like naruto because the fights were too long, somehow DBZ unabridged will make 30 episode fights that stay epic the entire time, naruto is bad because the fights aren't cool, the only fight even close to DBZ styled is the naruto sasuke fight and honestly doesnt even come close. Don't watch Kai, do watch dragonball original first

you'd have to be autistic to watch dbz in the original japanese. A dubbed dbz is an american classic at this point, B it's more fun to watch them in your native language, the cheesiness adds to the experience, makes it better honestly, C its a childrens show anyway, the writing isn't even good in japanese so why would you bother and D absolutely most important reason the animation and art are very aesthetic and you cannot truly appreciate the absolute plethora of great frames and beautiful settings OR the fast paced action if you are reading subtitles

Kai isn't even a good cut on it's own merits.Mainly due to the fact that the majority of the scenes are clearly cut from something larger. The new animation fixes this slightly but it's still very apparent.
The only way i can see Kai being good is if you want to watch the series but without the time investment but even then most of the cuts are poorly done and weaken the tone and atmosphere of almost all the scenes.
