Should I watch the original Fate anime from 2006 or just go straight to UBW?

If we had a decent Fate route anime ,or at least one that didn't fuck too much with the narrative, I'd say go for it. But we don't, so any order will be awkward for a secondary. Watching Zero first is specially retarded.

Zero doesn't spoil anything and doesn't need knowledge of Fate where you'll know what happened in Zero if you watch any of the routes. The only downside is that you watch the only decent piece of Fate first.

FSN tells you that Kiritsugu fucks up, the grail is corrupted, Saber and Gilgamesh are the last ones standing with Gilgamesh as the victor, making most of the appeal of the story moot.
Who care if it's a prequel, it's still a great stand alone story and one of the biggest reasons why it's more appealing than any FSN route was that it did the battle royale holy grail war thing better than FSN (Yes, I know the F/Z and FSN are actually about the ideals of Kiritsugu and Shirou, but most people go in expecting it to be about famous legends of the past duking it out than the moral/internal struggles of a manchild and survivors guilt ridden sword autist.)

It spoils that that Angra Mainyu corrupted the Greater Grail. It spoils that Rin and Sakura are sisters. It spoils that the large fire that almost kills Shirou is caused by Kerry. It spoils Gil's existence. It spoils the fact that Gil is Kirei's servant. It spoils the fact that Illya is Kerry's daughter.

Complaining that F/SN spoils F/Z is like saying the original trilogy of star wars spoils the fact that anakin turns into darth vader in the prequel trilogy. F/Z isn't written to be experience before F/SN.

This is all stuff that you learn naturally as the story goes on in Fate and they are all supposed to be revelations that make you understand better the context of their battle. Watching Zero first spoils all of this and more.

You are only told how it ended and not much more, the interesting part is how it all unfolded.

FSN is a good adaptation actually, only that there are people who are exquisite and if it is not something made by UFOTABLE they think it is garbagge.. in the end all the other adaptations came thanks to how good FSN 2006 was. the ones that came later look more great does not automatically make it a bad adaptation

The 2006 anime is a good introduction to the series.
