Sasuke was the author's favorite character. I think he really identified himself with Naruto and his desire to save him while most readers were unwilling to forgive him.

Jump is filled with garbage, low test, ugly, crying, losers for their readers to be able to self insert as them. One of the exceptions to this is Gon though, whose attitude scares away the lowlife scum that read shounen manga. Gon, and his complex struggles, are one of the many reasons why Hunter X Hunter is considered Soft Seinen. Someone like Kishimoto could only dream of writing a character as good as Gon, and even if he hypothetically had the creative mind to do so, he would be too scared of the potential backlash from the bums that read average shounen.
Bravo Togashi, you have created not only a phenomenal manga, but also one of the greatest characters throughout all of fiction.

He literally spent like five years obsessing over Sasuke, and didn't really care about anything else. After he brought Sasuke back he started focusing more on just living life. Imagine being obsessed with another man for five years and you hardly see him and travel around the globe looking for him.

For a good while I honestly thought Naruto was either asexual or gay. It is shown he likes girls though, but Kishimoto didn't really do a good job portraying it. There is one scene where Naruto is looking at porn magazines in a shop and then you have the sexy jutsu as well. He also wasn't good at flirting or talking with girls. Never showed interest in Hinata until Hinata actually confessed to him.

Well, he did have a thing for Sakura, but since Sakura didn't like him in that manner I guess he didn't think about going after any other girl in the village. All the girls were hot, not sure why he just settled for Sakura. Hinata was way cuter.

Im not really defending it or anything, I dont Naruto is that deep but,
Sasuke was his best friend, like a brother, the closest thing to family he had besides the 3rd and Suckara/Kakashi
and Sasuke decided he was going to try to go get power with some evil guys, it wasnt like he was taking a vacation, he didnt want orochimaru to posses his body

and in the last scene, its a parallel to the ending of devilman where ryo and akira are laying on the rock, Ryo being a blonde angel who was multigendered/intersex whatever and was attracted to Akira
