Unfortunately that's what Key and Maeda are known for and they seem unwilling to drop it.

Maeda stories have drama and comedy. His gimmick is to warm audience up to the characters through comedy shenanigans before he drops them in hellhole.

Anyone else tired of this guy? Constantly failed at doing so in the anime industry and says it everytime. He once did good, but not anymore.
