Should I read the LNs 1-7 for a better understanding or was the anime good enough? I'm a lazy fuck but I really had a good time reading webnovel arc 4 and the translations were nice enough to include some skipped segments from arc 3

The anime really fucks up everything, at least imo. Not having a direct POV of what Subaru is thinking, seeing, completely changes the narrative

No. This is completely wrong.

I read from LN 1-9 interlude and can say with confidence that the anime did a poor job adapting arc 3 and lost some nuance from arc 2 (although arc 1 was pretty much the same). I found them enjoyable, they really fleshed out Subaru's internal turmoil. The only caveat is that there's this guy currently translating arcs 1-3 of the WN at a blistering speed, he'll probably be done in half a year and that might provide a better experience down the line. However, in terms of right now read the LN's and then you can move onto arc 5.
