I think it entirely depends on the parts of the LN that don't exist yet.
Case in point:
If she never wakes up I highly doubt we'll see more in terms of flashbacks than actually flashes. Few seconds just to remind people of why it hurts.
However, if she's meant to wake up and play some sort of role in the endgame, and the anime crew was told about this, they're almost guaranteed to put in at least one extended flashback cutscene just to keep her character going.
The thing to look out for, if one wants to guess at it, I think, would be if there are any extended cutscenes, whether they directly tie into Subaru/someone else's character development at the time, or just dump some emotional highs/lows.
If the former, it might just be for the season's sake, and likely would be re-used skipped material. If the latter, especially if it's new material then it's either that they're again keeping her around for the eventual wakeup, or they are baiting Remfags hard.

Even then I don't think its too bad, if he went back to the market he could make Rem fall in love with her all over again. I think if I had that power, I'd be too obsessed with getting it right that would end up like a poorer version of the greed if.

It wasn't one episode. I genuinely tried to like Emilia, since episode 1 because I thought, hey that's Rie and she voiced Megumin. She must be pretty cool here too! But as the episodes passed she just wasn't clicking.
Also I used to hate short hair and meido suits, so when I saw the twins I thought I'd hate them because they seemed like the cliché maids that speak like robots or pun machines instead of having actual character. And actually found it enjoyable when Rem first was revealed as Subaru's killer because it meant she had some actual substance to her.
Afterwards I thought she would be the antagonist and get killed by Subaru or spelled from the mansion once Roswaal found out what she did. And I think I started falling for her since the Rem episode (I think it was episode 9?), the tribulations they had to go through against the mabeasts, and how she played a not exactly heroic but still not overly villanous role as Subaru has to survive her while she struggles against her impulses to kill him or trust him...it was amazing.
It was only natural I would prefer her once she took the spotlight in episode 14 onwards. So basically she got some good development, went through a character arc and has lots of desirable waifu traits. I expect many newfags and anime onlys to jump to the Emilia camp only on the basis on her increased focus this arc. But I'll never forget episode 15, that one left an impression I remembered it a week later.

We'll see about that. I have nothing against Emilia, I'm just rooting too much for Rem at this point. But there's nothing wrong with an arc not focused on Rem that is actually enjoyable.
I just wish Subaru asked more questions and learned faster from his mistakes. Kinda like Shiroe from Log Horizon. We don't need a Light Yagami or Lelouch, I just hope he's not as retarded in season 2. Actually I think Shiroe would massacre teams with Subaru's Greed Authority given his skill at managing teams of players and tactics during battle.
I loved the mystery as Subaru struggled and tried to find ways to survive and make his way across a new world. I think I would also love a spin off about Flügel, that guy screams mystery and complexity, and I'd love to know what he was like. Or how he got Shaula to become his sex slave.
Flugel is definitely end-game territory and not spin-off territory, at least right now anyway

I guarantee you that it won't. It's simply not the same tier of hopelessness. Arc 3 was already plenty hopeless and so it's "old" been here done that. Literally as it's supposed to have a direct homage to Episode 15's ending with Subaru carrying Rem through a snow storm with a gigantic cat involved. Until the LN made it so he teleports to Sanctuary instead of carrying Rem through the snow, I don't remember if Rem even makes it to Sanctuary to burn in the Cathedral. Good on them as this change actually has some reasoning behind it to remove the implications of Subaru only going to Emilia's side to give up, as he continued to struggle - even trying to form a truce with Roswaal as Rem still lived. As soon as she was lost it was "time to die mode" at Emilia's.
