She was at the center of that circle, pretty close to the surface even though they are on a tower, she then sprays an energy ray all around at a very wide angle, (almost straight in the scale of the earth). How come it lifts parts of the earth as if it was scooped from below ?

I'm glad One continued the webcomic, this manga works a lot better when it's episodic and doesn't take itself too seriously, but still has some solid themes and characters.

These espers are telekinetic, not pyrokinetic. The laser was a pushy beam, not a hot hot beam. It was fired below the horizon from a higher vantage point and quickly scanned an arc secant to the planet's curvature separating off a circular disc. Being a pushy beam it popped the disc up a lil bit

The problem is that the earth has to be cut from underneath in order to lift like that. No matter how fast and powerful that ray is, it's not gonna have this result. If we talk maximum power, it would actually just shave everything that isn't in the circle, what you would see would be a very wide cone with a circle at the summit. No clouds would be visible as they would have been wiped out instantly.

So let me get this straight : the ray is only a sort of indicator of the limit of her psychokinetic effect. It traces a circle around what she gets to move, then she moves it above the rest of the earth. Am I getting this right ?

Saitama is one of the few good and consistent things of the series, which is why it suffers when he's not around for long periods of time. The joke with other characters is that they're serious, quirky and "cool" shonen tropes so when Saitama is not around they're just shonen tropes.

None of these things is mutually exclusive. Saitama is heroic by nature and has no problems self-sacrificing to save others, which is why he wanted to be a hero in the first place. He feels pleasure in hard, seemingly impossible fights which is why "it's a hobby" and he also would like to be recognized for his efforts but doesn't give a fuck what the average shithead thinks.

Nah, you're thinking too hard senpai. Just think of the beam like a force spike or a wedge. It pierces as it shoots forward but then she rapidly scanned in like a low tilted horizontal plane. It split the pieces of earth apart and popped the disc up. I swear, I'm not making up any more of this than murata did.
