With the amount of changes the anime made I'm hesitant to call the anime and LN the same story. There are only a few reason why they would have done such changes.

1. They had time restraints and Feel's director believed for one reason or another that Yukino's scenes were the most important to the story.
2. Pure chance. They knew they would have to make cuts but didn't realize how biased they were being until it was over.
3. Watari told them to do it this way.
4. They're trying to break off from the LN and turn this into an anime original ending via OVA or something.
