Why is there so much anime about a male protagonist have his unsatisfying life changed by a pretty girl? It's funny because that sort of thing gets criticized in the West.

It's criticized in the West because it's 3D cunts and not pure 2D waifus.
this is a good show because it somewhat satirizes that trope by then becoming so over the top with all the things he specifically said weren't real in the opening monologue
It's what losers who can't get girls wish would happen to them, except it never will.
being psychologically tormented by haruhi is not an improvement
It's like how most romance novels are about average women having their unfulfilled lives changed by an attractive man
haruhi is not pretty
No idea what they were thinking with the Key uguu designs in S1 but she's at least 10 times prettier in S2 and the movie (inb4 K-On)
says you
You got it in reverse. What the West criticizes is when a girl gets her life changed by a male.
You want proof? Check out the diatribes being spat out by Me Too and SJWs.
But she is.
>pretty girl chases boy
>Bad
>pretty boy chases girl
>Good
>pretty boy chases girl
>Good
Not anymore, both partners have to declare romantic interest in their first meeting otherwise it sends a problematic message that promoves stalking and harassment
I love Haruhi so much
Haruhi's more of a subversion of a manic pixie dream girl in the end, because no matter how much he likes it in the end, it's obvious he's way more exhausted than when he started out (and Yuki-chan sort of proves this), and more importantly, her development exists independently enough from his (they both want things to be filled with wonder from the beginning, and they also both want a fairly normal high school life as well, and neither of them admits to the opposite until much later when Kyon does).
As to MPDG in general, well...
The reason it's criticized is MPDGs by definition always exist primarily for the development of the MC instead of just being their own character. In other words, they themselves rarely if ever actually develop, and they're focused on the MC and will avoid making their own goals.
In other words, the MPDG is a lazy trope to construct that appeals to thousands of depressed overworked dudes in Japan, which is kind of sad when you think about it...
Yes, I'd consider Senko one too.
Also, personal anecdote: from personal experience, having the real-life equivalent of an MPDG around is nice, but the friends that had and pursued their own goals were much more important to me in the end. You don't really want an MPDG, anons, you want a post like this telling you to go call your friends that you haven't talked to in a long time. Or if you don't have any, you just want friends.
So do I. You know how Rebellion ends with Homura trapping Madoka in her dream world? Well I wish something like that happened to me with Haruhi. A private world for me and her.
I don't want a MPDG though, I want Haruhi
The plot twist is that Kyon's is actually Haruhi's manic pixie boy. He even has the stupid cutesy quirky nickname.
I always preferred the S1 designs and I remember being very disappointed with the S2 visuals when it came out.
I personally like both
Excellent choice
>Bored Snarky Dream Boy cheers up bipolar girl
it was a good spin on the cliche
>Kyon
>unsatisfying life
Stop projecting your shitty tropes on actually good stories
This. Kyon and Haruhi's lives do eventually improve but it's more because of their respective growth
Fuck your shit, this world is the private world for me and her. Life had to come from somewhere right? Haruhi and I have much work to do.
>It's funny because that sort of thing gets criticized in the West.
Stealth politics thread.
Because it's something nearly every guy has imagined at some point in his life, giving it mass appeal.
How about girls whose life are changed by male protagonists?
>projecting
It’s pretty common in westernshit, I don’t know why you think otherwise.
Twitterfags still bitch about it because “muh agency”. Everyone should stop trying to please those cucks, they’ll still find something to bitch about.
I have been seeing so many of these sjw bait threads today, is it the same person posting all of these?
Correct.
OP said it's criticized in the West, not that it's uncommon. If anything it's criticized because it's so common it's unoriginal and usually badly written.
We’re probably being raided by Zig Forums or discord trannies.
You missed the point of haruhi, kyon doesnt like her, he only appreciates the life she gave him making her his "god,"
This.
It's just a stupid fantasy for a bunch of dreary nerds who want their dream girl to chase their boredom away.
