The anime didn't get around to adapting this chapter until episode 13, at which point Taru is hanging out with everyone on a regular basis and Iyona very much knows what he's like. This entire scene was still kept, and felt ridiculously out of character for Honmaru at that point.

Miecchin is another of those gadgets that will get a lot of use throughout the series. Its name is written as 見Hン.

I like how Iyona's mom gets a name and a personality before either of Honmaru's parents.

Remember this guy? He's been in every chapter except chapter 2 so far, usually only in a panel or two. He had his first single line of dialogue in chapter 4.

His name is Ryoguchiya Korekiyo, something Egawa isn't in a particular hurry to tell anyone outside of the character profile pages. Casual Jump readers probably had no clue what his name was until the anime premiered.

Cute

This is not meant to be a pun or a mix-up of terms or anything. The Japanese name for Concentration is shinkei suijaku, which sounds nothing like "Mozart". Jabao is just an idiot.

...yeah, that "me ru... me run" thing reads a bit awkwardly. He's originally not even stuttering here, but it's all I could think of.

Pretty sure this is the first appearance of Rui. Wonder if Egawa had already planned to have her be a major character at the time he drew this.

And that's the end. Taru plays an oddly minor role in this chapter, mostly just being there to introduce Miecchin.

Well, we now know where Yabuki and Miura got the idea

This is the Jump issue this chapter was originally published in. It has the premiere of Tetsuo Hara's new manga Cyber Blue, which I assume was a Very Big Deal at the time.

The anime makes it aay more of a dick move?

It's honestly impressive how much they were happy to hype things back then only to drop them if they didn't live up to the popularity expectations. Cyber Blue had amazing art and they gave it tons of color pages but then ended it quickly. But I'm okay with that because he started his best manga ever quickly after Cyber Blue ended and that series lasted a few years.

I always see this at my comic book shop but have never gotten around to read it
The only thing I know about it it's a funny anecdote about BOB (the writer of the series)

The scene is basically the same, it's just that at this point in the manga, you can kinda get that Honmaru is a bit worried about how others will react to Taru's antics. Iyona hasn't even necessarily interacted with him yet at this point, the only time they were in the same place together was last chapter, where they didn't talk.
But 13 episodes into the anime, with more than 20 manga chapters adapted and lots and lots of episodes of Taru being "part of the gang", it makes no sense Honmaru would worry like that. Chapter 5 Iyona hasn't had much experience with Taru yet, but episode 13 Iyona knows damn well what he's like.
That's the problem with adapting chapters out of order.

mommy

Thanks OP that was cute

By the way, the anime adapts this chapter into a full episode, so it had room for a substantial anime-original finale showing what happened after Honmaru woke up after fainting here. It's really sweet, one of the better anime-original bits.

>chapter takes place November 22nd and 23rd
>chapter is published in the December 5 issue
Did the series debut a week after it was meant to?

>what is Samurai 8

Cute chapter
I want to sit on Iyona's lap too...

Here is the cover as it appeared in the magazine

Jump still comes out weeks ahead of the cover date, literally all magazines everywhere in the world work that way. A cover date is when a retailer knows to take an issue OFF the shelves (theoretically).

Attached: 1988-52.jpg (593x948, 353.09K)

Samurai 8 wasn't even close, they put nothing behind it, it was by some nobody and it likely ended his career. I should have specified that in old Jump they still had faith in the creators even if they ended their works. It's why all historical Jump authors had multiple hits and multiple failures.

The date on the cover is always around two/three weeks ahead of the actual release
Other magazine reset their number sometimes but, to my knowledge, Jump has never done it

...Samurai 8 was by Masashi "Naruto" Kishimoto, user. It got a massive marketing campaign.

Aah, that makes sense. Burger mags do that too I think.
