>Zig Forums: "Why are anime writers so afraid of taking risks and making something UNIQUE?!! >Madoka Magica Rebellion comes out >Zig Forums: "This is terrible because it didn't go exactly the way I wanted like every other generic anime plot!!"
Rebellion is nowhere near as good as the TV series.
Eli Nelson
KYS the show was a mediocrity and the movie was even worse
Jeremiah Green
Rebellion is far from hated dude, what are you on about?
Blake Russell
You will not gaslight me with your revisionism. Rebellion got shit talked after the initial "newness" wore off. Case in point
Logan Murphy
It is.
Gavin Foster
They didn't take any risks though, instead they doubled down on Homu-fan-service. The movie itself did nothing meaningfully advance the plot, it might as well not exist. Instead it ruined the TV-show by regressing into open ended ending to sell merch to otakus
It's filler, pure filler painted as some avant garde for brainlets
>Fanservice sequel of an already finished series >Not generic >Unique Kill yourself, Rebellion is a perfect representation of the cancer that's killing media right now (including but not limited to anime)

t. Didn’t understand rebellion
Robert Gonzalez
I appreciate what it tried but it ruined a perfect series imo.
Easton Brown
Kill yourselves pseudshitters, go back to rick and morty
Look, the vast majority of people on Zig Forums are idiots who shitpost to hide how stupid and bad at understand media they are.
Kevin Murphy
Why do i feel like it's always the same few retards defending Rebellion? Probably discordfags desu
Kill yourself
Jack Rodriguez
*understanding
Noah Torres
The sad truth is that the people who think Rebellion is a good sequel/was necessary/was planned from the start are the ones who don't understand shit about it or the main series
Ryan James
Rebellion is based because it forced open a continuation of the franchise eventually leading to Magia Record, one of the best spin-offs and best Madoka game ever.
Jacob Adams
The people who think a good sequel must be planned from the start don't understand media and the creative process in general, instead.
Lincoln Moore
Pics or it didn't happen

It depends. Either you make your series with no ending in mind and you just wing it by stacking up stuff upon stuff, or you have the ending in mind from the start, and write things to have them lead towards this ending. The former is typical of western media while the latter is found more often in japanese stuff like anime and manga. Of course there are a few exceptions, like Gravity Falls, which follow a more "japanese" formula where the ending was already planned from the start. But in the end even Dragon Ball was supposed to end way prior to when it did, after Freeza's death iirc, possibly even sooner. When it becomes problematic is when people start adding stuff onto a series that was supposed to already be finished, because it's definitely going to violate some of the stuff from the original, where planning DID play a role in making it what it was. And that's exactly what Madoka was. It was already finished. Rebellion is up there with Diebuster and DBS.
Josiah Allen
People trying to act like it's ok to not understand it because it's "so deep". It ain't that deep, you're just trying to feel smart by saying you needed to watch it multiple times to understand what happened.
Jeremiah Bell
Rebellion’s alright, I guess.
Bentley Gutierrez
Rebellion isn't deep, mostly just random and sometimes incoherent The series is pretty deep however
Luke Martinez
Just because somethings different doesn't make it good. Subverting expectations by messing with the basic narrative structure is a stupid way t tell a story.
Lucas Taylor
There’s no plot holes.
Joseph Ramirez
If you need mental gymnastics to justify something it's a plot hole
Camden Thomas
>The series is pretty deep however I ain't seeing it. Maybe a rewatch is in order. The biggest reason this series gets any attention is the cute girls.
Easton Williams
>The movie itself did nothing meaningfully advance the plot How so, the plot of the movie is the plot Also you don't know what "filler" means
Jack Wright
>The biggest reason this series gets any attention is the cute girls I won't deny that, i did think yurifags ruined the franchise but the main series is a masterpiece in its own rights with how it plays with the concepts of protagonist and antagonist to debunk the ideas of good and evil, talks about evolution and what survival instinct would imply for an ageless/immortal species, etc. It's fantasy yet its depiction of aliens is more sci-fi-ish than most sci-fi stories'.
Adam Parker
People are just salty Rebellion revealed the logical flaws in their "perfect" pro-religious ending in the same way the first 11 episodes of PMMM revealed the logical flaws in the concept of magical girls. They made Madokamism their religion and were called out as nihilists who glorify death
Aaron Hall
>Incoherent Are you talking about the story? Or the visuals? Yes the dream-like labyrinth visuals and plot twist throws people off, but the story is pretty straight forward with no real retcons:
>Homura is a transfer student and joins the others. >Time passes and it's basically the perfect ideal world Homura and the viewers wanted, but the viewers don't know why it's like this >Homura tries figuring it out but then realized she's a witch >Meanwhile she talks to Madoka and thinks that Madoka never wanted to sacrifice herself >Homura decides to kill herself to bait Godoka and then changes the universe
The closest thing to a retcon would be Kyubey's "character development" at the end of the series, but Kyubey's curiousity naturally leads to Rebellion.
