What in the literal FUCK went wrong here?
More like "Japan STINKS," amirite?
Japan Sinks: 2020
bump
literally Netflix
Is this the biggest QUALITY anime we've had in a while? It feels like it.
There was already a sinks thread but just to make me laugh again can someone post the little kid getting domed by the debris?
pretty average survival, but at least better than most yuasa´s crap.
Behold:
Get lost, gook
This looks like one of those cheapo Children's Playground Chink anime.
>What in the literal FUCK went wrong here?
>(((Netflix)))
>terrible animation + art (Science Saru is an acquired taste), especially by Episode 8 and parts of Episode 10
>rushed
>too short, should've been longer
>muh-YouTube
>muh-eSports
>muh Twitter
>poor adaptation of the novel despite the creative liberties
>the cult episodes bogged down the pacing & felt like a completely different show
>not enough character development
>character deaths just happen for the sake of cheap shock value, some of which are predictable while others are unintentionally hilarious (e.g. the dad dies in the second episode from a random unexploded bomb from WWII, the athletic girl dies in the third episode from some random poison gas, the child of two cult leaders dies from a sudden piece of concrete from a ceiling that drops on him, etc.)
>last episode overstays its welcome & felt more like a prolonged commercial for the Tokyo Olympics; original novel's ending was darker while the ONA's ending is sugar and rainbows
>main female character is a cunt for leaving her school friends behind to die
>tries to paint Japan as """racist""" for not accepting pure blooded Japanese-born citizens
On a side note, the English dub also had some anti-Trump references that were never in the original Japanese. Make of that what you will.
>that part where the dad turns into yam sashimi
>the shovel flying in the air
>the floating towel
>a moment of silence
>hand just goes splat right next to the wife/ kid
The timing on the deaths in this really threw me off. I couldn't tell if they were being serious half the time
...yeah, the animation was not suited for this type of thing. What worked for Devilman Crybaby doesn't really work here.
Why didn't Ayumu get her leg treated while she was at the cult? They clearly had adequate medical facilities. She's unbelievably stupid.
sorry user but nobody in Zig Forums watch it, because it wasn't a shounen
The fuck was the deal with the religious cult episodes? What did any of that have to do with a disaster story?
>main female character is a cunt for leaving her school friends behind to die
Not only that user, she was the main reason why Nanami died (had to go to the restroom), she constantly refuses to let anyone know about the wound in her leg (and gets into fights about it), and she consistently pouts/ shits on the mom for not being a wreck after the father died (and consistently refuses to listen to her in an apocalyptic scenario).
>the English dub also had some anti-Trump
Really? I need proff
reminder that all the girls in the show eventually reached a point where they haven't bathed nor changed clothing and panties for a good while
>Why didn't Ayumu get her leg treated while she was at the cult? They clearly had adequate medical facilities. She's unbelievably stupid.
This.
>whines and complains throughout the majority of the series
>never mentions the cut on her achilles tendon to anyone nor does she ever get it treated until the end
>leaves her teenage friends to die amidst the rubble
>gets her dad killed because she wanted yams
>acts like an initial bitch because of her dad's death and initially decides to abandon the shoes he gave her
>gets the one athletic chick killed because she was jealous of not getting enough attention from her
>gets angry at her mom for no reason
>gets herself nearly raped at the cult
>stupidly decides to translate the Morse Code of the paralyzed scientist instead of giving him the phone to type with since its PROVEN that he can still type text with one hand
>terrible at rapping
There's no way in hell she deserved that happy outcome in the finale, even with her leg amputation. She's a retarded bitch who's in no way likeable. It could be due to her mutt genes messing with her brain chemistry.
How in your face is the wokeness in this one compared to other Shitflix anime?
The purpose of a lot of the deaths was to showcase how fleeting life is and how death can literally come randomly and in an instant. That in itself is fine, but like you, and anons like pointed out, it was handled like shit. In most cases the sudden deaths seemed like a bad punchline.
My question is, what was the fucking message of this show?
I didn't understand her character at all. She was a completely unlikable little shit the whole way through.
Her and her brother are partly why I dont understand the message of the show. Is it just fuck past Japan? Cause it sorta seems like it. I mean, the old man is a literal surrogate for Japans older generations and he sacrifices himself for a soiled bitch and a bratty kid who doesn't even want to live in Japan.
Meh, at least she some brief tummy kino in the final episode.
So after watching this I have only one doubt so to speak, this show is basically a copypaste of Highschool of the Dead, so why is people saying Japan Sinks is some sort of 2deep4you show while they treat HotD as childish garbage? I think HotD did an even better work with the themes/politics.
>My question is, what was the fucking message of this show?
Some heavy-handed cultural message about "be proud of Japan & be proud of being Japanese" in the final episode. It was literally so forced and on the nose during that montage that it felt like I was being subjected to a PSA message. I don't think Yuasa's good subtlety desu.
it was fun to binge, don't take it so seriously. last two episodes kinda sucked
>at least she some brief tummy kino in the final episode.
Sauce?
HotD has fappable titty girls.
>terrible animation + art
Definitely this.
The art style of Science Saru is ugly as sin. I'll never get why people praise this shit? It looks like it was outsourced to Vietnam or Singapore.
>religion bad
>I'll never get why people praise this shit?
These people like "alternative" (ugly) designs. They're the ones who say conventional anime art is, "kawaii uguu" shit unironically.
>Sauce?
Was I loosing my mind, or did the artstyle change from episode 3 onward? I remember it had more definition/ outlines
They spent all their money on Eizoken.
Nothing new here, people that like Yuasa works are the same people that goes around unironically saying "moeshit", they like it becuase IS NOT moe.
>Some heavy-handed cultural message about "be proud of Japan & be proud of being Japanese" in the final episode
See that's what threw me off.
The last episode is very much "Japan Stronk", but leading up to that there's a lot of "Old Japan bad", and "Japan is out of touch".
There's that rap scene near the end when the young kid is just bitching about Japan, and the glasses guy, Koga, gets asked to join and put his two cents in as the quintessential Japanese man. He has a bit of the 'Japan Stronk' moment, which would fall inline with the heavy handed shit at the end. That is until you realize that pretty much the next thing he does is get killed trying to step up and contribute.
Look at some of the other characters too. The old man I already mentioned, for instance. There's also the dad, one of the more competent characters killed by a relic of Japan's "dark" past. The other hyper competent character, the streamer, is basically so antithetical to what is traditionally Japanese that I'm not even sure if his character was Japanese to begin with.
I love Yuasa and moe.
This is why I always thought Yuasa to be some confused Westaboo. He's not open about it like Araki or Kojima and instead just goes full pretentious commentary about his beliefs.
This is probably what he means. Granted it's normal for people to want to help each other in a disaster scenario but still be distrustful, and who cares if grandpa was nationalistic?
>the streamer, is basically so antithetical to what is traditionally Japanese that I'm not even sure if his character was Japanese to begin with.
He's some Estonian JewTuber. He's Yuasa's attempt at trying to fit in with the younger generation, given that Yuasa himself is a boomer.
