Onii-chan
Other urls found in this thread:
well, uh, yeah?
>subs say big brother
>retard who needs subs in the first place ggets confused
>dude, nigga, buddy, sis, mate, brothah
It's an honorific for a stranger.
>Kuzu no Honkai
>character has sex while thinking of/talking about her childhood friend, who she calls onii-chan
>the subs translate it as "brother" every time
>that VN where one of the heroines says "onii-chan" to the MC and is repeatedly translated as "dude"
vndb.org
This one, I recall.
>Translator is an English speaker
>Writes characters to use phrases that no English speaker has ever used
>It can't be helped.
>no 'sister' in tags
and I was going to download it already
Ojii-san means random older person (slang)
Ojii-san means grandpa
Onii-chan means older brother in an endearing way
Onii-chan or nii-chan can mean any random male passerby(usually used by women)
Onee-san can mean older sister
Onee-san can mean any random female passerby
Learn the language
The worst one I experienced was a Railgun translation of "Onee-sama" as "sissy"
>Learn the language
Ironic coming from someone who doesn't know oji-san from ojii-san.
It's almost like you're afraid lf missing content and to cover for that you demand the translation leave all the words you do understand untranslated.
Well sorry but you're missing a tin of shit anyway, if it bothers you that much just learn nip
who tf calls their sister "sissy"? did they just make that shit up?
This is Kuroko being horny/respectful towards Misaka though so not only are they losing literally all of the subtext they actually chose an insulting way of addressing her.
I was talking about the word's use in the real world. When you choose to localise instead of borrowing a word, you are supposed to use a word that is common between the viewers' culture so they understand what is said quickly, but I have never heard anyone use the word "sissy" unless they're trying to be insulting. At this point you might as well just borrow the word because it's gonna sound out of place either way.
>The subs refuse to just write the honorific
>The subs use a different name for the main character than what the voice actors are speaking (looking at you, judaic-korean infiltration of anime: crunchyroll-webtoon)
>The subs don't have T/L notes anymore
>The subs are localized by trannies
Sometimes toddlers do it since it's easier to say than sister
Yeah, that one irritates me quite a bit. It does not capture Kuroko's intent at all.
This. "Sissy" is only ever used as an insult in the US, so it's a very jarring and nonsensical choice for a localization. I'm almost positive the translator did it deliberately to annoy the fans, because there's no other logical explanation.
But yeah, "onii-chan" to "mister" is one of the ones that doesn't bug me because in the right context that's actually a one to one accurate translation. Young children are often taught to refer to an unknown adult male as "mister" which is exactly how it's being used in this context.
>お嬢様
>subs don't say "daughter"
what the fuck, nintendo?
>Young children are often taught to refer to an unknown adult male as "mister"
How weird.
>not Zappy Dan the Magnet Man
God there used to be so many funny sub memes.
I'm pretty sure I suggested one of those in that awesome thread, but can't remember which one.
Sub memes are probably the best weeb-related memes
>uguu nigga-chan
Dropped
Downloaded. Is it any good?
>お兄ちゃん
>subs say onii-chan
It's alright, just expect it to crash to desktop after a certain point.
Is there a fix? The only thing I've found is a patch which removes "dude" and I'm not ready for that
>official manga for dorohedoro
>senpai changed to boss
>Kikuragi is literally translated it out as "Juda's Ear"
I try to buy to support, but god I wanted to read the fan translations after that shit.
>dub says [character's last name]
>sub says [character's first name]
I hate this
vndb.org
Check this thread, it happens for some people and not for others. I managed to play all the routes except for the one I was saving for last, by which point it crashed when launched (as if to spite me).
just edit kakashi-sensei to kakashi nigga and such for shounen anime
This, I usually don't mind the other stuff but this gets me every time.
