Gear 2 should have been enough

We all know that Luffy asspulled not only one but two new Gear powerups which he didn't train for at all. This ruined the arc as oda tried to create too much hype by using flashy new powerups which backfired and made all the strawhats (who also got asspulls) look invincible. Thus, the arc had no stakes involved as the reader expected any losing Strawhat to simply receive another convenient powerup when they were about to lose. Instead, Luffy should only have gotten Gear 2 and should have trained for it before leaving from Water 7.

This isn't Dragon Ball, and G2 has some level of justification behind it being a combination of CP9's Soru and rubberman hax. The reason it only shows up now is because after getting fucked by Aokiji Luffy had to think of some new way to keep up with enemies.

How does this even work? Gear two is just his realisation that the heart and veins can be stretched to max performance. Three is any time he fills his rubber body with air, although he never gets that creative with it and creates pressure bombs in his arms or sonic attacks or anything. Gear four is some sort of gum gum reqium transformation to redirect punches or something, though. It doesn't make any logical sense.

He sucks in lots of air and then uses his haki which somehow makes him stronger than Gear 2 and 3. It's just another nonsense technique.

Nah it makes sense there's a reason why it involves haki. Gear 4 is using haki as force on his on body while also using it harden and contract.

Basically he's using haki to hit his own harms to make those bends.

He sucks air into his muscles. That's the difference between it and Gear 3 where he sucks air into his bones.

You don't know what an asspull is. Gear 2 is an asspull and it's made worse by Gear 3 being asspulled in the same arc.

Yeah, thats right, he didn't train to use it, thats why both gears have the drawbacks they have at the start.
Once he actually spends time using them and training to use them better, he is able to use them more efficiently and minimize the drawbacks.

The only reason that G4 still has drawbacks is that the usage of it is tied to a finite resource that needs to be replenished after extended use.

Wan Piss runs on nonsense, this is the series where magma can burn fire, a guy who destroys all moisture is somehow weak to water, setting your leg on fire somehow increases your powerlevel, and then eventually you can set your leg on fire without even spinning... That's just off the top of my head.
