Is it really a good idea to release this anime in America again?
Wasn't this the first major anime flop in the west?

Sera is an overrated smelly boy.

Maybe they could pick and choose the best episodes instead of adapting all 2,000 or whatever.

detective conan sucks balls, don't know why japs love it so much

Isn't conan pretty much the Japanese equivalent of the Simpsons? He's a pretty bad detective if it's been this long and he still hasn't gotten a cure.

cringe
>cure for being a shota and back to normal boring adult life
no thanks

detective conan, aside from the "knocking out kogoro and solving the case in his stead" shit was actually really good. Even more so with the men in black infiltrating everything from hollywood and media, finance, politics, lawenforcement etc. and blackmailing people as they go along which is pretty much what happens in real life.
Also Ran, being a strong and yet feminine female lead cast which you dont see often.

I doubt they can really operate on a loss here. They're giving us secondhand dubs, aka scraps, from one of the lowest current dubbing companies out there. Presumably we don't even get localized logos in the movies themselves like lots of other places do. Just the japanese logo with default subtitle text saying what the film is under the logo. It's a little insulting. While it's obvious TMS makes lackluster english title animations it'd still feel like we weren't getting literal scraps if we had an english logo in the movie, not just on the cover.

Not that it matters, the new dub is being a top seller on rightstuf despite how bad it is. I don't understand how people can hear Christina Vee's whispery whimsical delivery and think it fits the Conan franchise to talk like that. No one else sounds particularly great either. Conan's voice isn't just shitty for a 6 year old, it's just not a good voice.

Also even though it's been like a month and literally no one has ripped the god damn thing, someone did put a camera recording of some episode one clips online. Even in this overly literal translation, they change the fucking breast joke just like Funimation did nearly 20 years ago. This time to "not bad", even a painfully literal translation won't acknowledge anything sexual, and that's stretching the term sexual.

It doesn't sound like you're watching the right show for you.

Reminder that new dub Conan could've sounded like this, so it's not all bad.

He could have sounded a lot of different kinds of bad, that doesn't make the one they chose good. Funimation has a rule about picking voice actors based on who they feel fit the characters/the design, not just finding the best American they can to emulate the voices of the originals. Conan just barley gets by in the Japanese as it is, I've seen a lot of people saying Minami just sounds too old and deep to pull off a 6 year boy now, I think the reason to other viewers it doesn't hit as hard is because it's in another language. When it's upfront, in your language, it's more blunt. Conan's new english voice does sound similar to his Japanese, it's obvious what they were going for, but he doesn't sound any different from your typical Shounen protagonist dub. In fact, the whole dub sounds like a generic shounen dub. The way they talk really doesn't fit DC.

I'll still probably buy the Blurays, unlike the retards who boycotted the original attempt because they didn't know how, I can just switch audio channels and turn on subs as if I've bought a standard Japanese release, except this time my money supports the franchise and it's not second hand. I don't mind having a collection of Case Closed v2 sets specifically because it has the Jap track and subtitles. If nothing else, that's a positive. I don't expect them to get better with this new dub down the line because this is all standard fare for Bang Zoom.

So thanks for trying again TMS, maybe the worst of dub watchers (IE most of them) will support it and better material can be brought over here in time. I just hope people don't get the wrong atmosphere off Conan because of how shittily generic battle shounen it sounds and makes Conan sound annoying like a little punchable shit.

Wear a mask.

No thanks I just got out of going to walmart so I'm staying home and comfy watching murder mysteries maskless. I am sneezing a lot but maybe that's a sign to stop dousing my food in pepper my lips are still burning after an 8 hour sleep.

Did the dub of ep 1 leak online yet?

How are they going to handle the Kansai accent part?

Why don't they like my anime?

nobody gives a fuck about an ugly shota

It's all about exposure. It simply didn't have it during the anime boom so it missed out on a large fanbase of easily susceptible children and teens. There's a reason the manga sells well in America but not the anime. This time it seems by now people know the franchise name a little more, I didn't expect to see Episode One be a top seller two different times. I just ordered mine but it'll probably take awhile to get here. I still don't know about Zero the Enforcer, I've actually seen that dub. Plus, it's my least favorite movie, the only way I could buy it without hesitation was if Jerry Jewell and Alison Viktorin were back, I'd never turn down their performances even in a bad Conan film.

>Case Closed: One Truth Prevails
>he no longer says one truth prevails
False advertising.

Also I wouldn't really call it a major flop, it managed to go 123 episodes (130 using international numbers) and 6 movies. Plus one game all set to go but cancelled for America at the last minute, it even had an english website. It failed, but it was a slow burn.

Weren't there several attempts to make it a huge success in the US and they all ended in failure?
With all the effort put it anything less than a homerun would be considered a flop.

I dont see any though?

Ran is boring as fuck

This, Conan is easily one of the best looking characters that fall under the shota category. I mean his modern design is highly debatable but that doesn't remove his long time looking nice and huggable.

My only exposure to Detective Conan in all these years is SBN3’s Taste Closed parody. Is it worth it to change that?

Yes, the original is far better than some internet parody.

Funimation really wanted Conan to be the next big shonen anime in America after DBZ ended, but poor marketing (no real audience for a children's murder mystery), releasing (only putting like 3 episodes at a time on DVD), and reception (changing names in a time where Japanese names in anime were long acceptable; this wasn't the 80s anymore) made it all flop very hard in the initial TV run.

It's basically all the things that happened to 4Kids One Piece. That was a flop too.

Is there a pastebin or something with a list of plot important/non-filler eps? I’m seeing that this is almost at 1000 eps and that’s a bit...much for me.

pussy

Thanks.

They also wanted it to air on Cartoon Network's daytime programming because they knew the life and blood of dubs just starting out were the TV airings. This picture still has remnants of that, there's no way the Adult Swim audience saw Case Closed and thought "yea, I wanna draw fanart of that and send it in", and no, 6 year old anons who stayed up extra late to see offlimits cartoons don't count as the adult swim intended audience.

I wonder if they got a single piece of fanart, that's just sad. It's like watching some dead guy's last recording and he says something like "I'm gonna do this and probably survive woooo" while the recorder has blood on it.

Yeah, that was a weird period where DBZ ended, but they hadn't found their big thing yet. Bleach and Naruto went to Viz and MHA wouldn't come out in another 10 years.

Hell, everything about the initial Conan package had Cartoon Network branding on it, so you're probably right.
