Back in 2011, we thought Madoka was a masterpiece that would change everything. Not even a year later it was completely eclipsed by a shitty but more influential series like SAO, and the franchise is practically dead while Monogatari is still being milked to this very day. What went wrong?
Back in 2011, we thought Madoka was a masterpiece that would change everything...
Set the bar too high.
The better something is, the harder it (or more specifically, the aspects that made it good) is to replicate.
You got it mixed up.
Madoka has its mobile game and the anime for it came out just this year, with a second season in development.
Monogatari's mobile game got shut down after a year and no new anime have come out since 2017.
>Magical girls, but with GROWN UP and DARK elements! So deep bro! Woah look at Homura gritting her teeth and dual wieldng pistols! Ahhhhhhhhhh
This is some really bad bait, user.
It’s kinda similar to Kamen rider ryuki
米素度
The movie sure as shit didn't help.
>Monogatari is still being milked to this very day.
The Monogatari series is good, it's exactly what people like you want from anime yet it's 'just not good enough' for you because it got too popular and you cant come up with your own opinions on things you watch
That's what separates shows that are merely great from the masterpieces.
There was no massive flood of anime trying to copy or paying homage to Madoka in the first place - like it was the case for Eva, Lucky Star or K-On. PMMM simply got overshadowed by the huge Light Novel and then Isekai wave of the last decade. It never codified itself as a truly influental work in the anime canon, despite massive commercial success and critical acclaim.
>Eva, Lucky Star or K-On
(other than k-on maybe) shows like these did something somewhat unique
madoka's edgy magical girls gimmick isnt unique to mahou shoujo, neither is the time travel unique in general and not that impactful/intriguing
Good, Madoka wasn't a good anime.
Madoka is way too pretentious, to be honest. It tries to be artsy and high-brow in unnecessary ways which results in frequent periods of indifference for most viewers.
Madoka isn't pretentious at all.
Urobuchi said it's his favorite in the franchise.
This, I liked it when Homura was Naruto spamming those grenades and flying through the air while shooting machine guns. I like good cheap shows like this
HOLD THE FUCK UP! So you mean to tell me that Japan has shit taste?!
What the hell did Madoka did? Big memes? If memes is how you measure a show then DBS > Madoka.
Madoka is a good show as long as you turn your brain off.
I want to milk Madoka!
Madoka is still alive and well in nipland. Hopefully they still have Kajiura and Butcher for the sequel to Rebellion.
>madoka
dead
>monogatari
dead
>Hyouka and VEG
growing every year, true modern classics.
How does KyoAny do that?
>There was no massive flood of anime trying to copy or paying homage to Madoka in the first place
actually there were plenty, just none successfull
But yeah, the show did not stand the test of time and failed to aquire status of Classic despite the popularity.
Some more dark magical girl shows were made after Madoka, but most of them were pretty shit. Either Madoka killed the magical girl genre or it was already in decline.
YuYuYu was very successful

>Madoka killed the magical genre
Why do people say that?
Precure still exists and makes more money than Madoka ever did.
There were more late night slots magical girls this decade than in the last.
This
Holy shit it's just Zig Forums...
Precure is the only magical girl franchise this day that still follows the classic formula. Other magical girl shows this past decade were aimed at a higher audience and sometimes mixed with other genres. Compare that to the 2000's when there were shit ton of magical girl shows.
you should check out Mahō Shōjo Tokushusen Asuka, its way edgy and actually gory
