Alot of the literally me anime like OP pic or Bunny Girl Senpai are pretty pretentious, but more people need to watch pure navelgazing shit like Limit Cycle to understand what pretentious actually means instead of the meme criticism smoothbrains over here use for anything which explores themes or ideas beyond the surface level, bucks trends, forgoes mass appeal, or has arthouse/unconventional direction and presentation just cause they got filtered by them. Ironically the dudes who call everything pretentious are the most pretentious posturing retards on the board.

Americans seem to get triggered by the "everyone is bi" stuff even though there's a perfectly valid in universe explanation that's not really a great thing. Also the pacing is weird where the first few episodes are slow then it suddenly infodumps a whole lot of world backstory info a few episodes in. I'm in the SSY was great camp though.

- So much is left unsaid, which is standard for scifi, but bad for people who don't want to think about or discuss the show
If you like reading scifi that focuses on changes to society and how humanity copes with amazing and terrifying new discoveries, I'd recommend it. Read the book, then watch the anime.
