I read maybe the first 10 chapters but that was in like 2007 and I think I remember having a hard time finding scans that weren't garbage.

I think there's like ten people tops that have even heard of kinnikuman on this board.

I saw the one dubbed by 4Kids.

I've seen a fair amount of the sequel series, and I enjoyed it. Is the original series as good? I tried to watch some of it years ago, but I couldn't get into it a lost interest, but does it get better later on?

The original is notorious for starting out slow as a gag series and evolving into one of the best shounen out there.

I get being turned off by it but, watching, or especially reading it, I feel it's important to take in those early chapters just to get the full impact of later developments.

I'm still waiting for the rest of the show to get subbed, but I think HnG mightve dropped it.

Incredibly. That said, if the comedy really does turn you off, which for some reason it does with a lot of people, the manga is by far moreso the way to go.

The anime keeps a lot of the early characters around for filler and also isn't even fully subbed yet, whereas the manga is still going and receiving regular translations. Early scans are sorta poor but that also might be fixed soon.

I never realised. How far in is the part where they’re fighting on the palm and fingers of a giant hand? I remember that vividly.

My exposure to this series was when a mobage I was playing did a collab with it years ago.

There was a thread the other day for the latest chapter releases that had at least 4 times that from what I remember.

only up until the beginning of the 7 devil chojin arc and then they cancel that dub which wasnt even good.

nope, only a couple of episodes subbed so far, and the subs are so mid 2000s at best, also Scramble for the Throne is also being subbed but very slowly by another group, and the original series subs are frozen.
