This guy destroyed the moon cause he knows Martial Arts.

Yeah, so did I, big whoop.

>highschool martial arts student casually defeats adults of any size

They are usually kendo prodigies. The ones with a kendo family background probably have fought with real swords before. Why does this bother you rather than the myriad shonen heroes who fight like they have been possessed by the god of battle the moment they get into a fight scene? Some of them even use their fists against weapons.

This thread didnt need to be made
maybe in kendo they also learn useful swordfighting skills?
maybe they learn enough to be able to at least handle themselves against a commoner?
maybe most kendo skills can be applied and slight readjusted?
maybe their kendo hobby led to them learning about swordfighting?

do you actually know anything about swordfighting?
do you actually know anything about kendo?

It's okay because a space alien posing as God put it back only for his Grandson to destroy it later,

Why can't real martial artists like Bruce Lee do shit like that? Do they not work as hard as Master Roshi did?

They don't carry a shell on their backs so clearly they are slacking on their training.

>Be like water.

Everyone knows that moon beats water.

It's basic math Bruce, you fucking hack.

Roshi is over 300 years old. He had time.

Fucking Dragon Ball...

Shieet you're right. The sun and the moon fuck over the ocean so hard.

>character does sword fighting based martial art
>they're good with real swords too
seems logical to me

You can't become a swordsman without fighting with a real blade.

Why not? You can just use the same moves you used with your kendo stick

The weight and balance is different. Sure you can adjust after a while but if you just pick a sword up and fight you're going to look like a total noob. It's not just a matter of using more strength.

>op is a seething HEMAfag
give it up dude

kendo is primarily a sport and the goal is to score points. it teaches a lot of bad habits that you wouldn't dare try with a real sword, or you'll actually die.

>The weight and balance is different
a typical sword only weighs 3-4lbs
a kendo sword is 1lb, surely, it cant be that much more difficult that it would make a huge difference, literally a 2 minute practice swing session would be fine
>if you just pick a sword up and fight you're going to look like a total noob.
maybe, but not neccessarily, if you know what movements to make then you should be fine fighting against a commoner or humanoid monster
I cant think of a single anime that depicts swordfighting in a realistic way anyways
Sword of the Stranger maybe?
I doubt ninja scroll does
ruroni kenshin doesnt
samurai champloo doesnt
pretty sure berserk doesnt (1997)
katanagatari doesnt

yeah, Ive seen Kendo fights, they look stupid, but you still learn how to use a sword generally,
obviously you wouldnt use the same tactics from kendo, unless youre an idiot
If you just apply certain tactics, you should be fine kendo has a lot of blocking, parrying and making sure you don't get hit, the only real thing you need to account for is the sword not cutting your hand open by being reckless with the guard and instead of kissing each other, just headbutt them or hit them with guard or kick

It's literally 4x the weight. You don't carry a sword like a log. All the fancy wrist movements suddenly have 4x the burden to cope with. When kendofags first pick up a real sword their movements don't work and it takes a long time to get used to how real swords work. You might think that swords are simple but if they really were simple why does it take so long to practice?
Think of it like picking up a stick and waving it. Then try waving a stick with an iron ball on the end trying to do the same movements. The difference is what kendofags feel with a real sword because their movements use more finesse than your pleb swings with the stick.

weighs about 520g for a size 39

What is muscle memory?
You'll use what you're used to use. Thinking too much in a life or death situation will bring you closer to the death option. However, if you're used to moves that are suicidal in a real fight you're get your ass stabbed anyway.
In the end of the day it all depends on the level of the attacker and the defender. Pro swordsman > kendo practitioner > total noob

I kind of retconned that
>If you just apply certain tactics, you should be fine
yeah theres plenty of tactics youd use
I was referring to the kissing

1.146404 lb

Don't the japs have a HEMA equivalent?

A good kick to the balls can defeat pretty much any size of man. One of the first things you learn in martial arts is to protect your junk.

getting hit in the face by the guard can fuck you up too, much worse, Ive heard

Your fault for staying too close to a guy with a sword.

You're misunderstanding
I'm saying that either person has the ability to kick or attack with their guard if they set it up properly.

>Not wearing a cup.
Why do modernfags insist on walking around defensively naked? Is it masochism?

I believe a kick has longer range. Also, a person has this instinct to protect their face especially when they see the attack coming. Because, you know, their eyes are on their face..
