I felt the same until I listened to Nagori Kachou. The staff said they wanted to end the anime as if it would never get a sequel. But, there were already enough ideas for a full second season by the time the last episode was finishing production. There's lots of things that got downplayed to make the ending feel more satisfying.
We did get one of those.
