Absolutely not. The narrative is non-conventional because it’s a meta-commentary on movie narratives. It subverts a lot of traditional plot devices on purpose. You think it's mediocre because you evaluate Fujimoto's work from a conventional perspective. This is extremely limiting, and you will be unable to appreciate certain elements in his work that you don’t see in other works.

Each character operated on their own drive that gave them purpose, and when faced with the existential crisis that their plight might not even matter, they made choices on how to cope, adapt, and change their identity and perspective to keep on living in their world. And this encompasses the major characters like Agni, Togata, and Judah.
Also the humor landed really well with me. It was hyper-violent at times but it never came off as morbid because the ridiculous juxtaposition made me laugh.
Instances such as Togata being a reluctant hero against the train rapists from the empire, or Sun being almost raped by dogs and being oblivious to the fate he faced because of his undying faith for Agni.
I never read anything like it before. The story has great pace, is constantly transforming with the characters. Doma was a fantastic character.

But I understand that it is all subjective. So you might be able to understand how it executed its themes and story, but you will never see it as "genuine" because to you that is something different from what I consider genuine.

The ending of Fire Punch encapsulates my love of cinema. I watched the life of Agni and suffered with him in a cathartic journey and I'm left to take it in as however I want. Whether for entertainment or something more profound like walking out of a movie theater.

Yea its called Fantasia I really don't mind it, the real problem here is Miura's laziness if you think about it the pacing right now is really frantic it looks like its building up to something.
