Which, just like in other Abrahamic religions, is a pretty varied definition which has girls wearing veils depending on just how religious they are (see: nuns).
The best example of this is Egypt, which actually had females walking around with no hair covering. They then invented the modern hijab as a fashion item it's used as today.
People generally have this weird monolythic view of the whole deal where it's just old Saudi goatfuckers in the Arabic desert or Afghani super-radicals forcing all women to throw table cloths over themselves because they hate looking at faces, tits or hair.
