As someone that recently reread part 1 I can confirm you are an idiot, in fact, the whole point of Sasuke leaving is grounded on his own realization of how weak he is compared to other genin.
Naruto is obviously the strongest, then Gaara, then Lee, then Shino, then probably fucking Choji before Sasuke.

From my point of view his obsession with revenge made him leave for power. He was always sucked by everyone since he was a kid. "oh Sauce youre so awesome, you are so strong". Literally everyone from kids to Naruto and Kakashi would do this.

Until one day he realized he was nothing next to his brother and the weakest guy, the village idiot became and equal to him (in a few months since episode 1?). Imagine what Nardo would become soon? That lead him strive for power. But he was stronger than most genins.

This, I don't get why Neji was all arrogant after the Lee vs Gaara fight, Lee would wipe the floor with him.
It's also lame how Sasuke was able to actually break through the sand shield with a Chidori, while Lee almost destroyed the whole place and didn't actually harmed Gaara

To be fair, Gaara recived some damage from his fight with Lee, and the Chidori pierced him just enough to get some blood. I wouldn't e surprised if that wound was as deep as the one Lee gave him when he kick his face
