Is it just me or are devil fruits kinda useless in this series? It seems like Haki makes them useless...

Didn't Rayleigh 1v1 Kizaru even though he had no devil fruit? He was able to keep up with his lightspeed because of Haki user.

Before Haki came along, luffy's rubber actually mattered. He was able to endure attacks and reflect them. he was able to be faster than others with his gears, and his gear 3rd made him stronger. Haki came and made that irrelevant. Before when he used his rubber attacks it gave him an advantage

Actually, I'd say it's quite the opposite. DF powers are SO useful that Oda has had to create ridiculous buffs non-DF users and nerfs for DF-users (usually in the form of bad writing "why didn't he just....?") moments to compensate for it. Like, it's obviously ridiculous that a guy who is literally light decides to use that power to have a sword fight with someone rather than the myriad other ways he could keep it from being a fair fight.

DFs aren't useless and Haku isn't OP. Oda just writes DF powers and their use down to whatever level he needs in the moment.

Haki will always be superior to devil fruits. They only give you few tricks up your sleeve and edge in certain situational battles. At least for the normal ones that is.

That implies haki is equal between the opponents. If the person's arms haki is stronger than the arms haki applied to the meteor or sword it would be irrelevant.

The problem isn't necessarily haki though, its that one piece overemphasizes melee slugfests with both characters trading large amount of blows and clashing repeatedly over any other types of combat.

The top tier of One Piece are all Haki monsters, DF user or not. Obviously, all else being equal, you're gonna have an advantage being able to create earthquakes, move at light speed, turn into a volcano, etc., as well. His post ts enemies usually use pierce/cut attacks: Hordy's teeth, Doffy's df, Cracker's sword Katakuri's trident
