Ergh, the problem isn't so much that he's a dunce. Its that he's a dunce in comparison to himself BEFORE getting coached by Kamogawa. He drags Ippo down to the dirt, and Ippo still worships the ground on which he walks.

Then there's the fact that Sendo won this fight by using the same brain-death inducing boxing Kamogawa forced down Ippo's throat. Which is meant to show what? Yamato Damashi, block with your face, punch harder kid? The meme's were meant to be a parody, not a goddamn simulacrum.

When you compare Ippo's recent fights, and Sendo's current one, it to Takamura's or Itagaki's or even Aoki's, they just seem pathetic.

Still, the series is good for 700+ chapters past the point left off. Finish the anime without any worries.

Ippo hasn’t done anything meaningful ever since becoming the japanese champ, in fact it seemed he regressed, and then there were no many damn teasers over the years that he would finally grow the fuck up to move against the world, but nope, Ippo has gotten some terrible fights and then he "retires" to cool down before he gets memed into the ring again.

Imagine a sports series going over 1200+ chapters and the supposed protagonist has been stalling in progress for 500 chapters straight. Other long sports series has world super starts and ended years ago.

At best Alf will fight Ippo if Ricardo retires undefeated, but he's more likely to join hands with Sendo and Date to help Ippo prepare to challenge Ricardo, so it will be a spar at best.

Yeah, the fact that the Yamato Damashii never gets criticized by the main cast is ridiculous too. Miyata literally ended his match by pulling a Red Corkscrew Bolt Counter out if his ass when physically he shouldn't have even been able to move, to the point the ref let him crawl back to his corner.

Miyatas RBJ fight was dumb but remember, he JUMPED over ippo, used the ropes to bounce around the ring like bound man and even though miyata cheated, ippo fought a guy with loose untied gloves and no one noticed. The ref in ippo might as well not be there.
