Is there a better modern example of totally jumping the shark and ruining what was an enjoyable series in a single arc/development?

2015 were such comfy times for this series

I had some time to read the earliest volumes of Soma up through the Autumn Election prelims, and I remembered how much fun I had reading it before. This series was great up through the Moon Festival. Central is when the series started going off the rails.

bnha did pretty much the same thing.

There was a clear decline, though. The plot became stupid as soon as Erina's dad showed up, and characters were being shelved even before that.

Erina's dad appearance/central shit is what I was referring to

Based. I feel like a lot of people forget it was already ruined from the second he appears, Blue arc is just the dollop of shit on top. Fuck and early SnS was so great too.

Bofuri PvP

I alot of people like myself instantly knew this dude killed the manga it just got so fucking stupid when he showed up, like we were used to the other stupidity but that dude and his motivations took it way too far

>End of the autumn election arc establishes a big 3
>Everyone aside from like 2 characters just becomes useless jobbers for central shit
t-thanks

I wish the school clubs and classes were the main theme instead of stupid shokugekis

Cooking manga is too hard to write for long run without just becoming recipe of the week. It was going to happen eventually.

Haven't read the manga and I watched the central arc for Tsukasa.
Be honest, d-does it get worse now with BLUE?

Someone post THAT.

>Tsukasa
Good taste

There's nothing wrong with recipe/monster of the week as long as the character interactions are solid.

I really hope the new editor got fired

I'm just baffled on how Tsukuda was okay with shoving in a character that kept losing but is told to have so much potential but then keep her losing matches anyway on screen and hardly show that she's developed in any way shape or form. How do you create a main character like that and shove screentime on her but remain on the status quo

Erina's dad being the source of her bitch attitude sounded alright on paper but it was just too over the top all at once - the physical abuse, his Tim Burton appearance, his banishment from the family, his takeover the school, the super restrictive new regime, etc.

this is the kind of attitude that ruined the series. I knew it was doomed as early as the tendies arc when I saw people complaining it was filler and that the series needed higher stakes.

I remember reading through and wondering if they were going to introduce an antagonist.

Hahaha did they ever

What happened to meat girl? I remember everyone being scared shitless of her, then on the cooking tournament everyone and their mother beat her hard. Did she got better or stayed a jobber?

One Piece, Wano

She's completely irrelevant.

It would have been decent enough as the ending arc with some revisions. It felt to me like a rushed ending but then the El Hermano shit started.

Shounen MC's should be modelled after boxers and their professional boxing careers. You can't stay an underdog forever, eventually, you're going to gain everyone's respect and that's going to happen in the middle of your journey, not the end.

Feels like I was the only one who liked that arc. It was a nice interlude that set up a major antagonist by the time it was done.

He made two textbook examples on how not to write an underdog with Megumi and Soma. One never won a single important match, and the other had so much plot armor that the audience and the opponents constantly underestimating him became annoying rather than believable.
Whatever happened to Season 5, is it on hiatus forever?

>it was already ruined from the second he appears, Blue arc is just the dollop of shit on top
The story got pretty stupid from Central but it was still salvageable. People liked the Souma x Erina moments. El Hermano's Guillotine Cooking and Co. is what truly killed the manga.

>Whatever happened to Season 5, is it on hiatus forever?
It already resumed a couple weeks ago.

I love Megumi, and Alice.

The manga was on a roll though when the series was selling well at its peak when it went from Autumn Festival to Stagiaire to Moon Festival. The author knew that the best way to write a plot for a Cooking School was either through competition or challenges to overcome which forced characters to come up with new and creative ways to develop their cooking.

There were plenty of ways they could have continued doing that. This is why Shokugeki is labeled as a series that jumped the gun as soon as they introduced Central all of a sudden at the end of the Moon Festival. As soon as Erina's dad appeared, all that development just lost its magic. When you introduce a villain, you know that the main characters are going to have to win. The all-or-nothing approach when it becomes a battle shounen didn't work for this kind of story.

I'm looking through the archives for some threads and it looks like interest in the anime is borderline non-existent.

Don't forget him trying to erase plebeian food from existence.
