Yikes. I recently decided to give the show a shot, since I'd managed to enjoy shows despite Trigger failing to stick the landing in the past, and Zero Two seemed like enough of a QT to carry it.
I just hit episode 14 last night and fuck, so much forced drama that I feel kind of bad for getting frustrated with, because of course all these ignorant dysfunctional teenagers and the seemingly less ignorant, but even more dysfunctional demihuman aren't going to be able to just fucking talk to each other to straighten their shit out. But fuck me they drag this shit out.

I worry response to this show and it's notorious ending is largely dependent on how heavily you invest in any given ship? I suspect I may be the wrong audience for where this is going, as I'm more interested in the bigger picture of the interestingly weird dystopic setting they've built up, these kids' place in it, and where it's all going (I fear nowhere...) than who gets Hiro's D.
So far as I can tell from the halfway mark, it probably has something to do with the show spending 13 episodes making it clear she Wasn't going to Win The Boy and was just making her Bro-tier Partner sad. Then after 2-3 episodes of build up to cliffhanger promising a satisfying plateau to Hiro and Zero-Two's relationship based on recalling their shared backstory, instead they delivered an episode of her fucking everything up and dooming us to another cour of stupid relationship drama and ruining any chance of getting the Fun Zero-Two back before the end of the show's run.
Also because despite her understandable motives of not-wanting-to-see-her-childhood-crush-wrecked-by-a-hungry-monstergirl, blocking him from piloting with her seems to be tantamout to a death sentence in-setting, as he demonstrably can't pilot with anyone else.
