I'm trying to swap certain coin to eth on uniswap, but I don't have enought ether to cover the gas fee apparently. I lower the gas until I can afford it, but then the transaction fails. What can I do other that put more eth into my wallet? Help an user out please.

Get a friend to send you $5 in Eth
Or
Post your wallet address here and ask for $5 and if someone send you it, send the money back after you sell
Keep in mind if you ask for money here though, you will get banned so it’s something to consider.
You might get the funds and banned
You might not get any funds and banned
Thanks friend, I just retrying like a retard and eventually it worked. Unfortunately in the time I struggled the price of my shitcoin went down. Do you know why suddenly it worked?
Fuck it's been 8 minutes and it's still pending. Am i getting scammed? The estimated duration was 48 seconds, which is weird because i paid 0.09 dollars in gas
Link us the etherscan txn
$0.09 sounds like not enough. You probably got the transaction to go through but if you paid not enough in gas the txn will take too long and eventually fail, or simply take hours
But show us the etherscan txn if you can
etherscan.io
If it fails will I lose any money?
It's probably gonna fail, but you won't lose money except the gas. Try the cancel function in metamask to speed it up. Then do the swap again, but before confirming the swap edit the gas use to "fast". That should work.
2 fucking gwei ?!
Safe gas price is like 50 gwei
Even if I haven't added any eth to my wallet?
If a transaction fails you will lose the ETH you paid in gas.
I'm assuming you didnt pay enough for gas. Can you send more eth to your metamask? I always leave a little bit of eth in my wallets so I never have to worry about not having enough to pay for gas/fees. Sometimes this means not buying your "max" in ETH but instead clicking "max" and manually reducing it so you can leave a little bit of ETH in your wallet to avoid catching yourself in this scenario.
Thanks user I learned my lesson today. Unfortunately I can't add any eth to my wallet for a week or two. Hope my shitcoin doesn't dump, but it probably will, it pumped a lot.
I fucked up and did the same thing last week
Perhaps the user who asked for The txn hash will send you a few $, a sneaky way to get your wallet address without you getting banned haha
Or maybe another kind user will
I just received some :^) Thanks a lot to whoever did it, it's a bit surprising to be honest. I don't know if saying thank you will get me banned, but thanks a lot.
Was about to send you a bit of ETH for the gas, but looks like some generous user already did.
Damn two people willing to help, that's great.
One more question, is it a good idea to set the gas to the lowest safe amount? I don't mind waiting more for a transaction to confirm, as long as it doesn't fail. If so, which would be the best website to look up said amount?
you can use this to determine the safe lowest amount you can use for gas.
around this time it says lowest safe amount of gas may result in your tx taking around 50 minutes, whereas the fastest (which is like 7c more) takes less than 2 minutes.
you should always pay attention to gas prices because if there's a lot of load on the network you may lose a non-negligible amount of eth to failed transactions ($5/tx happens)
Thanks, with those 5 dollars potentially lost are you referring to the gas fee? For example if the safe amount was 6 dollars and I paid 5?
you should consider cancelling your transaction and trying again with a value that's at least the lowest safe amount.
the gas you pay is part of the reward for the block your tx may end up being mined in,
as it stands, it's not worth it to mine your transaction because there is a lot more traffic that's worth more money to keep miners busy.
it may stay stuck for the max amount of time and get cancelled.
yep.
it's not that often than gas fees are this high but sometimes they are,
in case the safe is $6 and you paid $5, your tx may get mined a bit later when the volume of transactions lowers, thus lowering the gas price.
but in your case you set the gas price to 2 gwei, safe price is 50 gwei, that's 25 times more, good chance you get stuck into no confirmation purgatory.
Default slippage is to low, you needed to adjust it to something like 5-10% depending on how much liquidity the coin has
if you mess up the gas amount, the amount you transfer is still safe, either the transaction gets cancelled and you get your stuff back in your wallet, or it gets transfered after a long time.
The Eth network is clogged at the moment, just pay the extra and send it “fast” so there is no risk of failure. The cost difference is nothing
Thank them buy sending what they sent you back and possibly plus a little extra
Then don’t forget to pay it forward when you see another poor user make the same mistake and needing some help
It wasn’t me that sent you the money, it was probably the person who asked for the has
Thanks friends. I did the swap with the eth sent to me. The price went down but it's ok. Thanks for the information.
Would you mind expanding on this? I've heard slippage being mentioned but don't know how to adjust it, or why it's relevant. I guess I could google but I'd appreciate your explanation.
Oh yeah completely forgot about this, thanks for reminding me.
Wait apparently the swap didn't work. I click to see the transaction from uniswap and it says on etherscan that the transaction hash can't be located. Any clue to what is happening?
etherscan.io
this is the transaction which doesn't show up
I don't know what's happening. I decided to cancel the second one too on metamask to try again but the new one (third attempt) also can't be located.
it doesn't look like you've any transaction on the way.
if you're still referring to the one that's been pending for the last 50 minutes,
you can check the activity tab in your metamask and there should be a cancel button, you can click that and it may ask for gas again, pay attention and enter a decent amount this time, and try what you were going for again.
you may have had out of date information in the front end of the website and thought you triggered a transaction but when you clicked confirm it just ignored it, long as you don't see anything on your etherscan, it hasn't happened.
I already clicked on cancel twice on the past one.
if you play another transfer while this one is pending with the same resources you want to transfer, and a higher gas fee, you'll be okay,
right now you still have all your stuff in your wallet, since nothings confirmed, it hasn't moved, so you can just do another transfer that'll complete faster than the other one.
be sure to refresh the uniswap interface before you actually trigger the transaction.
I tried this, choose fast, and the same thing happened. The transaction instantly goes to a state of waiting to be cancelled, even though I didn't click that.
What seems to be happening when I try another swap is that the previous cancellation carries over.
etherscan.io
The last attempts have the same cancellation transaction hash when I view the details.
Also apparently the transaction for the first swap I tried to make needs to be completed in order to follow through with my recent swaps (which are being sent straight into cancellation) but I already tried to cancel the original transaction and it's not working.
yea that's funny.
these cancellations are for this one? etherscan.io
That one shows up as failed on metamask I think after clicking to cancel it. Then I tried another swap, and it was sent to a cancellation. Which I didn't know was happening at the time, then tried another swap, then another one.
