Is Nen the best and most complex power system in all of manga?
Is Nen the best and most complex power system in all of manga?
Looks like context sensitive aura abilities.
Seems almost the opposite of complex in the grand scheme of things.
>what kind of power does this character have?
>uhhhh...aura does
being what is required in context.
No
stand is more creative and better overall
yes, nothing matches the complexity of nen.
Stands are literally the same thing just more flamboyant.
No, that would be JJK. HxH is a close 2nd.
Shitposting aside, I have a rule of thumb: any setting which gravitates towards the hard magic system will eventually turn into Nen by other name with minor tweaks.
It's probably the best when it comes to the depth to complexity ratio.
If the main character can make up a pledge in the middle of battle and gain superhuman strength, how come other characters don't do it? Even those who die? Clearly, dying is a worse outcome than living under a new restriction. Living with less livespan is better than not living at all. Every nen user, in every battle, should prefer to create a new restriction (including lifespan draining) rather than suffer a painful and humiliating death. However Nen users are defeated/killed all the time without this happening. At least the story could show non-main characters attempt to make those shaky pledges and fail, for whatever reason, but they don't even try. Professional Nen users get eaten alive by mutant giant ants without sparing a thought about it. It's the elephant in the room that Nen wankers refuse to discuss.
Zazan also mutilated herself for a revenge power up.
Kurapika burns away life-span for Emperor Time.
There is a literal suicide squad of characters in the current arc that can pull off a death curse that is guaranteed to kill the target in a few days if they commit suicide while touching the target.
What part of "every single nen user should default to pledging before dying" do you not understand? Cope harder HxSimp.
>Kurapika burns away life-span for Emperor Time.
So literally zero consequences
God I hate "but your lifespan is shortened!" bullshit.
Yes. Unfortunately, there are way too many retards who can’t comprehend it.
Yes, Gotoh and Squala should have "pledged" before they got decapitated with no time to react. And Uvogin should have "pledged" while unable to use Nen. Amazing ideas you have there
Read the manga.
>If the main character can make up a pledge in the middle of battle and gain superhuman strength, how come other characters don't do it? Even those who die? Clearly, dying is a worse outcome than living under a new restriction
Spoken like someone who never experienced a true gut-wrenching fear even once.
I bet you also criticise Subaru for not abusing suicide to grind.
Last I check the manga, Kurapika is still alive and considering how little time passes in-universe in HxH, we'll never see a point where he suffered from this burned up lifespan.
>B-but he passed out!
Wooooooooooooooooow its fuckin' nothing
>consequences must be immediate
God I fucking hate morons
Action SHOULD have consequences, yes
Not ACTIONS and then 30 years down the line in-universe which you'll never see on-panel, he'll drop dead 40 years early.
Not only the most powerful nen masters in the world don't do it but they also don't even talk about it and we see their thought bubbles and they don't even THINK about it like it never existed as a possibility. I'm surprised there's any drop of water left in Egypt because you drank the togashi koolaid and washed it down with the entire Nile river
power systems are inherently retarded
>Wooooooooooooooooow its fuckin' nothing
Not an argument.
>If the main character can make up a pledge in the middle of battle and gain superhuman strength, how come other characters don't do it? Even those who die? Clearly, dying is a worse outcome than living under a new restriction.
Exactly because dying is the worst thing that can happen and IS about to happen, so what exactly are you going to sacrifice that's more important than "not dying" to get the boost?
The idea behind the whole pledge thing is to sacrifice something you have and hold dear in exchange for strenght (like how Zazan sacrifices her ability to make minions to boost up), but if you're about to die you have nothing to sacrifice. You can't avoid losing everything but sacrificing a part of that everything, that's not a fair deal.
It's decent, but it only looks good because power systems in anime/manga are generally very simple because most series that would require a power system are usually aimed at children.
Manga isn’t over yet, dipshit. It’s too early in the arc to judge how things will turn out.
>Action SHOULD have consequences
Which already happened when Kurapika passed out from over using ET, could not turn it off while passed out, all the while being a constant thing that he has to take into consideration for all of his powers but one, factoring into his planning and decisionmaking. Passing out if he overuses it is an inherently significant restriction, see the cockroach fiasco which was disastrous enough that Kurapika's group they had to completely re-think their strategy and put at an even further disadvantage for 0 gain.
>Shit I'm about to die
>But if I pledge I can get stronger and not die!
>Doesn't matter what I pledge so long it's something I believe will be bad for me
>but there's nothing worse than dying and I'm already there
The pledge will have no effect. It's like paying 1000 euro to not lose 10k, or surviving starvation by eating a part of yourself. It doesn't work.
ALLUKA HEAL GON
alchemy, also less asspully unless the stones are involved
I get what you're saying, but in Kurapika's case I feel this is an exception.
Remember, just for a few hours of Emperor time he lost something like 10+ years of his lifespan, and this isn't the first time he used the ability.
OOOO MY RUBBER NEN
That wasn't a pledge, he tried abusing the "Nen stays after death" thing and it worked.
CAREFUL
Nen is a competent shonen power system but its hardly complex.
>Aura is basically just power level shonen fare.
>The nen classifications are generally irrelevant in practice, because every character has a more or less unique ability that operates totally unlike any other characters ability. In practice there is really no more in common between two enhancers than an enhancer and a manipulator besides how close they are to eachother on the chart.
>The only meaningful rule in the nen system is that of conditions, and even then thats basically just the shonen trope of making some form of sacrifice or concession to gain greater strength manifesting literally.
Nonetheless, nen does serve its purpose. It allows shonen tropes to be used constantly without being asspulls and it allows a lot of interesting and unique fights to be written, so its not bad by any means.
To be honest, Emperor Time and Steal Dolphin are really SHITTY abilities that only work for Kurapika because he's a doomer autist.
>1day+20min of activation = 10 years lifespan loss
>Meaning he can't use the ability for no more than 10 days, hypothetically speaking.
>But that's not even the case here since Kurapika can only activate ET for 3 consecutive hours before passing out for 3 times as long (i.e. 9 hours).
>Meaning he can only access about 25% of those 10 days (2-3 days of total usage, and then he DIES)
>And it doesn't stop here, Kurapika himself isn't aware of all ET's restrictions. He theorized that a stronger stolen ability can lengthen the passing out period/shorten the usage period.
In short, ET is a shit ability--any ability that uses lifespan as a restriction is probably also equally shit. If a person is about to die and thought of using lifespan as a restriction, the condition won't even become as effective (since the nen user is desperate) so he will end up with an even shittier version of ET if anything at all. I'm not talking about O MY Rubber Nen here, because yes, I think it's an asspull.
So you live in an alternate universe where Gon didn't pledge to fight a royal guard and win? Does togashi updates more often in your alternate reality?
Based and best friend with Yuji
The fight hadn't started yet, they two were just sitting there talking and Gon still had options at his disposal, like more negotiation, talking, trying to run away etc.
His death wasn't decided and Gon didn't even think he was gonna die, so he still had the option of sacrificing his future growth for the immediate growth we saw happening.
It was a fair deal in that situation.
hunter x hunter sucks balls.
no as much as ur mom
The fact that it not really complex let's you do whatever you want which is good. Also let's not forget that despite pic related we HunterChads are still on top of Zig Forums
but alchemy is just
>gu gu ga ga draw a circle
>bang! you have alchemy
If the circles were explained like in witch hat atelier, the system would be much more interesting
more like most retarded. They even forgot about their greed island nen rules in that same arc and relied on power level rules in the end.
