I get the feeling there's going to be a few more plot twists. It's like Willy Tibur: Sure, he seems set up to die, but he's played up as such an important character you think he might make it out, somehow. Even the anime trailers are making him look super-important.
But no, Eren snaps into a Slim Jim, and he dies for good. It's the same situation here: The Cringevengers have no plan, and no real hope of stopping Eren. Eren is now basically God, it's like the end of Shaman King where the villain was all-powerful and invincible (they didn't defeat him, by the way). The alliance guys are going to rock up to Eren, and he'll effortlessly devastate him.
It's like how the argument is "We've got to find a way that doesn't involve genocide!" and the counterargument is "Can you think of an actually constructive way to bring that about?"

I gotta say, the main cast siding with Annie and Reiner is monstrous. I point out that Annie and Reiner are directly responsible for all that happened: They kicked down the wall, they got Eren's mother eaten, thousands died. Long years of terror, murder and misery followed.
And now they're fighting ALONGSIDE them, against their own people, to save the very people who sent them to the island. That's monstrous. That's like Jews fighting alongside the SS in order to preserve the Third Reich.
