They always leave the pairings until the end. Naruto, Bleach, Fire Force, My Hero Academia, etc. Don't they know these shows can be more popular if they actually gave us MORE romantic inspired arcs with the battles too?
And yes, even as a kid I wanted to see romance in the story.
How about you stop reading shonenshit or read older titles like Bastard if it has to be shonen?
Oliver Mitchell
HxH has romantic elements >Meruem and Komugi >Gon and Palm date >Whatever's going on with Hisoka and Machi >Tse's killer crush on Theta >Arguably Oito and Kurapika since her baby considers Kurapika her daddy
Shounen has good stories which I enjoy and romance elements could only improve that. At the very least it could give viewers more "hints" between love interests instead of leaving us dry for years. Yes, I do enjoy seinen. Decent selections, well done.
Ryan Murphy
Slam Dunk never brought the romance to a head, but I appreciate the final change in Sakuragi's motivation nonetheless.
Jackson Hill
Imagine complaining when MC ends up with big tiddie cute shy girl.
Lincoln Russell
>Don't they know these shows can be more popular I don't think they can, they're about as popular as it gets. Just stop reading shounenshit.
>older titles like Bastard As far as I remember, Bastard's romance mostly consisted of the funny pervert MC seducing every random girl he met through his sheer awesomeness.
Jason Kelly
But wouldn't it have been better if Naruto legitimately contemplated his relationship between Hinata and Sakura? Or if Sakura legitimately, for a moment, gave Naruto a chance to be her lover? These don't even have to be entire chapters, just a page at most.
Connor Taylor
Bro it's fucking shonen, shit made for 10 year olds. Do you think they want to see characters kissing?
Lincoln Young
I'd love to see more real humen relationships in some shounen either. Unfortunately for us this has no place in the genre.
Charles Williams
>Do you think they want to see characters kissing? I did when I was younger than 10. I know, it sucks.
Benjamin Lewis
I love that about Shounen, its an escapism of the glorification of women by men in our society.
Andrew Kelly
That's an interesting take on the topic and a very valid one.
Owen Fisher
Explain To Love-ru then.
Thomas Collins
Japanese society pushes the idea of trying to be as successful as possible while you are young, and you are far less useful when you're older. That is why shonen manga prominently features tweens/teens to inspire young folk to try harder. Romance is saved for the end of the story because their job is done and they can finally settle down for accomplishing their goals. Also romance helps raise too many death flags, causes anxiety
Isaac Garcia
Hinata got better personality and bigger tits. Them ending up together was obvious since chunin exams when she fought Neji.
Evan Howard
I'm pretty sure everybody did, but they couldn't because shounen. In a time where people are already fucking like rabbits at 13, it's jarring to see how that shit never comes up and everyone acts like it's the end of the world, even for Jap standards. You'd think kids would be getting wasted and doing drugs, while fucking and fondling their gf, but nope laws can't even show you're drinking or smoking for underage, I get the sex, but it's like they need to constantly sell the aura of being immaculate when everyone knows nobody is like that.
Bentley Flores
>You'd think kids would be getting wasted and doing drugs, while fucking and fondling their gf Calm down. Most battle shounen aren't set in the ghetto
Carson Edwards
I think Nanatsu no Taizai kind of fits; the main motivation for all the main characters is love, even if the execution is mostly shit.
Jason Cooper
Don't have to be in a ghetto when you can be in New Jersey.
Joseph Harris
Retards will tell you romance will detract from the story. They fail to think outside the box
I know! I don’t get it either. It’s kind of the same in a lot of western animation and live action too. Is it because writers think that will they/won’t they is more fun and easier to write?
Hudson Hall
Same thing.
Elijah Robinson
Which brings another problem, relationships today (in the West and probably Nihon to some extent) are anything but romantic. If they show how actually goes down It would be shitfaced couples fucking in the club toilet, cheating, MC (assuming he is the beta type) love interest sucking the Baseball team before kissing him etc.. It goes completely against the feels good atmosphere of Shonens
Liam Roberts
Cringe
Parker Ross
Thanks for the contribution, Redditor, too bad you gave me a downvote this time
Those manga are popular not because of the romance and won’t ever be. If you want romance, Then read another shonen that has romance like Tonikaku Cawaii or whatever
Jayden Sanchez
Have you considered Inuyasha? And yes it's a shonen, it was published in Shonen Sunday
Yeah, especially when otakus (especially japotakus) probably never saw any of it, and the mangakas being of the same ilk start idolising everything too. Many shounens are power fantasies, and just looking at the reactions of people who want purity in everything, like the idol culture in the East, it probably wouldn't be seen well. Would be cool if restrictions were laxed to show the more raunchy parts in an actual battle shounen without going the edgy route, just give it a sense of naturalism, without making it awkward as fuck unless it's the point of it, like the first time you have sex.
Charles Sanders
I hope Theta doesn't end up on Tserriednich's wall.
